Vienna— While the perilous and deadly Mediterranean sea migration route is well known, new figures from IOM show that more than one in five people arriving irregularly in Europe do so by land.
The most frequently-used route is from Turkey to Greece where authorities reported a total of 12,166 land arrivals since the beginning of 2018.

GENEVA (13 September 2018) – Sanctions must not degenerate into blockades which expose innocent people to the ravages of economic war in peacetime without the protection of the Geneva Conventions aimed at safeguarding civilians in war time, says Idriss Jazairy, the UN Special Rapporteur on the effect of sanctions on human rights.

It is an honour to be called to this mandate, to assist States to uphold the human rights of their people, in this year in which we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The majority of those returned to Turkey are Pakistani nationals (39 per cent of total). Syrians constitute 18 per cent of the total number of those returned, and are followed by Algerians, Bangladeshis and Afghans.
In total, 309 Syrians have been returned to Turkey to date. 33 of them have been returned on the basis that their asylum claims were found inadmissible at 2nd instance.
6 September 2018, Salalah, Oman – After the signing yesterday of the UHC 2030 International Health Partnership Global Compact for progress towards universal health coverage by countries of the Region, health ministers, policy-makers and experts from WHO’s Eastern Mediterranean Region and beyond today called on heads of state and governments of the Region to endorse a vision of UHC in their social, economic and health policies and develop national roadmaps to realize that vision.

PREVISIONS. Une reproduction a petite echelle entrainera une legere augmentation des effectifs acridiens dans le Sahel septentrional de Mauritanie, du Mali, du Niger, du Tchad et du sud de I'Algerie. On ne s'attend a aucun developpement significatif.

Resettlement in Turkey
3,682 new refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants were counted in Serbia on 02 September (compared to 3,875 two weeks ago). 3,174 (i.e. 86%) were accommodated in 15 governmental centres (below chart refers), while over 500 were observed outside centres: 260 close to borders with Croatia or Hungary, 150 in Belgrade City, and up to 100 in Loznica close to the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina.
