CARACAS, Dec 17 (Reuters) - Hundreds of people swept away by raging rivers and mudslides were still missing on Friday in Venezuela's capital Caracas and along its scenic Caribbean coastline in the country's worst natural disaster in 50 years.

Nearly 70 Venezuelan Red Cross (VRC) staff and volunteers are continuing rescue efforts and assistance to victims of last week's earthquake, which left more than 80 people dead, nearly 400 injured and 600 homes destroyed. Volunteers from Cumana and Cariaco, the towns most affected by the earthquake, set up two Red Cross field hospitals to treat the injured. They are also distributing food and water, vaccinating people to prevent epidemics and providing victims with psychological support.
