Perú- Bajas Temperaturas 30/8/18

El Centro Nacional de Operaciones de Emergencia (COEN) informò sobre el número de personas afectadas en las regiones de Apurímac, Arequipa, Cusco y Puno, debido a las bajas temperaturas, las heladas y la nieve en el país.
A nivel nacional, el número total de personas afectadas fue de 713.980. En las regiones de Cusco y Puno,190.962 personas y 157.258 se vieron afectadas, respectivamente

OVERVIEW

MEXICO AND CENTRAL AMERICA:

A 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck Oaxaca, Mexico, a region still recovering from significant damages after a September 2017 earthquake that killed hundreds.

Flooding in Guatemala and Panama and heavy rainfall in Honduras caused significant damage to homes and crops.
National authorities have responded by delivering food and dry goods to those affected.

Inundaciones en Guatemala y Panamá y fuertes lluvias en Honduras causaron daños a hogares y cultivos.
Las autoridades nacionales han respondido entregando alimentos y otros materiales de socorro.

ECUADOR

El Banco de Desarrollo de América Latina (CAF) otorgó un préstamo por US$100 millones a Ecuador para apoyar en las gestiones de atención a los damnificados por el terremoto en la reconstrucción y readecuación de la infraestructura urbana y vivienda. El monto será canalizado para atender a 7,900 familias (alrededor de 40,000 personas) con la instalación de nuevos asentamientos.

Tres meses después del terremoto del 16 de abril (magnitud 7,8), unas 2,220 réplicas han sido registradas. Las réplicas aumentan el número de personas en los albergues. El terremoto dejó un saldo de 668 personas muertas. De acuerdo a la Secretaría Nacional de Planificación, la reconstrucción de las zonas afectadas por el terremoto costará unos US$3,344 millones. Hasta la fecha se han recibido $18 millones, de los $73 solicitados por el llamamiento de ayuda internacional, esto representa un 18% de cobertura

ECUADOR

Three months after the April 16 earthquake (magnitude 7.8), some 2,220 aftershocks have been recorded. Aftershocks have caused an increase in the number of people moving to shelters. The earthquake left 668 people dead. The National Planning Secretariat reports that the reconstruction of areas affected by the earthquake will cost about US$3.3 billion. So far $18 million has been received of the $73 requested through the international appeal – representing 18% coverage.

The El Niño phenomenon is a disruption of the Pacific Ocean’s atmosphere system, characterised by unusually warm temperatures which severely change weather patterns. It can cause extreme phenomena such as massive floods, extreme droughts with catastrophic consequences around the globe.

Experts believe that this year El Niño will be stronger than ever, with an impact similar to the 1997-98 episode which caused a number of deadly disasters in Latin America, the Caribbean and across the world, affecting millions.

In El Salvador forecasts indicate that river levels will remain historically low in the coming months. In Honduras, where more than 250,000 people are in need of immediate humanitarian assistance, the government and humanitarian partners released the Preliminary Response Plan for drought.

  • COLD WEATHER: A severe cold wave has resulted in 1,209 people homeless, 487,569 affected and 8 deaths in Peru.

FLOODS AND RAINS: Peru declared a 45-day state of emergency for 19 cities of Piscobamba district, in the Andean Ancash region.

SNOWFALL: In Cochabamba, Bolivia, 15,560 people are affected by a snowfall.

MIGRATION: Officials report 396 Colombians (including 42 minors) were deported from Venezuela. It is expected that more than 600 Colombians could be deported in the upcoming days.

(1) Bolivia – Extreme low temperatures and drought: The western part of the country is being affected by intense snowfalls affecting to approximately 60 communities in 15 municipalities. Most affected departments are Chuquisaca, Cochabamba, Potosí, Oruro, and La Paz. More than 3,498 families have been affected, at least 1,103 hectares of crops have been damaged, and 20,000 head of cattle affected.
