SITUATION

1. HEAVY RAINS SINCE LATE DECEMBER 1993 HAVE CAUSED WIDESPREAD FLOODS IN SIX REGIONS OF THE TRANS CARPATHIANS, UKRAINE. GOVERNMENT SOURCES INDICATE A TOTAL OF 108.000
PERSONS AFFECTED IN 139 FLOODED LOCATIONS.

2. THE GOVERNMENT OF UKRAINE HAS, THROUGH ITS PERMANENT MISSION TO THE UNITED NATIONS IN NEW YORK, REQUESTED INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE.

2. GOVT REPORTS TOLL OF 4 DEAD. DAMAGED/DESTROYED: 4,471HOUSES, 10 BRIDGES, 31 KM OF ROAD NETWORK. DISRUPTION IN WATER AND ELECTRICITY SUPPLIES. PREDOMINANT ECONOMIC ACTIVITY IS
AGRICULTURE: MORE THAN 305,000 HA FLOODED.
