The Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) outbreak was declared by the Ministry of Health on 19 October, 2017 following laboratory tests conducted at the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI) which confirmed that one person had succumbed to MVD on 13 October 2017.

Kampala – 4/12/2017 - The Ministry of Health would like to inform the public that contrary to the information that has been making rounds in the press and some public fora, the Country has adequate stocks of antiretroviral (ARV) drugs to manage all the patients on treatment in Uganda.

Stakeholders and patients countrywide should be reassured that there are the right quantities of ARV drug formulations for patients to continue their treatment without any interruptions.

Originally established in 1997 to receive refugees fleeing the Second Sudanese Civil War, Maaji settlement II and III were re-opened in 2015 to host new refugee arrivals from South Sudan. While the settlement is no longer receiving new arrivals, humanitarian partners continue to support efforts to improve standards and services for refugees and host community alike.

  • Insufficient permanent health facilities and lack of an outreach unit leave facilities crowded and health services overstretched.

Kampala - 06/11/2017 - As of today, there are no new cases or deaths reported in the current Marburg outbreak in Kween and Kapchorwa Districts in Eastern Uganda.

Our team of experts has been following up 2 cases including a turn-boy and an enrolled Nurse who cared for the second confirmed case, but according to results from the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI), both have tested negative for Marburg Virus Disease (MVD).

Kampala - 01/11/2017 – In response to the Marburg outbreak, the Ministry of Health, with support from partners, has intensified its response within the affected Districts of Kween and Kapchorwa as well as the rest of the Sebei Sub-region.

South western: During August at the start of the second season rainfall and planting season, below normal rainfall was received, but the rainfall trend picked up to above normal in September. Therefore, favourable conditions in districts of Kanungu, Kisoro, Kabale, Rukungiri and Ntungamo; and watch conditions in the districts along in the cattle corridor extending to the Western region.

Acholi: Conditions are close to average but remain under “watch” for most districts in the region due to poor rainfall during July except for Kitgum that is above average due to increased rainfall leading to favorable conditions in the district.
