Again, southern Africa is faced with widespread crop failures. Whereas in the past emergencies like this could be attributed to a single factor (such as drought), today the situation is more complex requiring a more multifaceted and longer-term response.

Zimbabwe has been badly affected by the dry- spell. In combination with a reduction in planting, input constraints and economic challenges, food insecurity is expected to increase drastically.
