MIGRANT BASELINE

The 21th round of data collection took place in July and August 2018. During this round a revised version of the data collection methodology was used to capture additional information on the needs and challenges migrants are facing.

DTM identified there to be at least 669,176 migrants in Libya. Migrants were identified in all baladiyas, within 554 communities and originated from more than 41 countries.

Highlights

  • 1,104 migrants from 26 different countries have been repatriated since the outbreak of the crisis in July 2014, the majority of them directly out of Tripoli, or via Tunisia. In 2015, 754 migrants have been supported by IOM Tripoli to travel back to their home countries, so far.

  • Since July 2014, 8,132 IDP families and 11,683 migrants have benefitted from the distribution of NFIs and hygiene kits in different parts of Libya, including newly displaced IDPs from Awbari (South) and Warshafana (West) during this month.

High Commissioner's Opening Statement to the 62nd Session of ExCom

GENEVA, 03 October, 2011– UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres warned today that an increasingly complex international environment is making it harder to find solutions for the world’s more than 43 million refugees, internally displaced and stateless people.

Speaking at the opening of the annual meeting in Geneva of UNHCR’s governing Executive Committee, Guterres said the international community needed to up its collective game to prevent conflict, to adapt to climate change and to better manage natural disasters.
