  • EBOLA: Kenya sent a team of 15 doctors, Uganda 14, Rwanda 7 and Tanzania 5. In terms of health workers, Kenya will deploy nearly 300, Burundi 250, Uganda 21 and Rwanda 7.

  • TB: In East Africa, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania face the highest disease burden. In 2013, Kenya recorded the highest number of new cases at 89,796, followed by Tanzania with 65,732 and third Uganda with 47,650.

The aim of this project is to ascertain how businesses and governments in eight global cities are contributing towards the integration of migrant and refugee populations, either through specialized outreach programmes, the provision of services or targeted funding of nongovernmental organizations, and to what extent these contributions can be deepened or expanded. Perhaps a more important goal is to determine whether and how business and cities are currently working together to create opportunities for migrants and refugees and deepen their integration into society.

  • In West Africa, markets were well supplied with staple foods in November as regional harvests progressed. Staple food prices were stable or declining, except in areas directly and indirectly affected by the conflict in northeastern Nigeria. The Ebola outbreak has led to both official and voluntary restrictions on the movement of goods and people in affected Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone, resulting in atypical market trends in some areas.

On December 17th, 2014, a group of five former Rwandan refugees landed in Kigali. They include RUGIRA Desire who opted for voluntary repatriation from Uganda. Four other namely: Soter Hakizima and Asnath NSENGIYUMVA from Niger, Rcihard Niyomusabye Richard and Marie Chantal Mukeshimana from Uganda came throughout the “Come & See, Go and Tell program” to witness the situation in the country so that they can go back to asylum countries to testify to their fellow refugees. They attended the 12th National Dialogue before visiting different parts of the country.

Despite only having about 200 fighters, the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) continues to terrorize civilians and communities across central Africa. The LRA command structure continues to revolve around leader Joseph Kony, who controls a force dispersed over an area the size of California that encompasses parts of the Central African Republic (CAR), the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), and an enclave called Kafia Kingi on the border of Sudan and South Sudan.

IN SUMMARY

  • Climate-smart agriculture — also known as conservation farming — makes use of technologies that help farmers increase their productivity, adapt more effectively to adverse climatic conditions, improve the fertility of their soils and minimise the negative impacts of agriculture on the environment.

In less than one year, smallholder farmers in eastern Uganda have harvested more than three times the usual volume of crop from the same size of garden, by adopting innovative practices that counter unpredictable weather patterns.

1) Although good rains were observed over the Greater Horn of Africa during late November and early December, the delayed onset of the October- December rainy season combined with an erratic distribution of rains during the season had already negatively impacted ground conditions in northern Kenya and southern Somalia. As the season is coming to an end, a recovery is unlikely.

With Food Right Now, the young people participated in a training on the advantages of the animal traction method. Cultivating land with the strength of cows increases agricultural production and ultimately higher income for the poorest farmers.

GIDEL— In Sudan's state of South Kordofan, the number of amputees as result of civil war is in the thousands, but few have access to sufficient medical help.

A small team of Ugandan doctors has been providing remote help, producing new prosthetic limbs for those in need.

In Sudan's Nuba mountains civilians are trapped in the middle of a conflict. Government forces have staged thousands of aerial attacks since 2011.
