As a member of the United Nations Emergency Telecoms Cluster, TSF met in Tunisia with teams from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the World Food Programme (WFP), in charge of the coordination of operations in Libya.

Following this meeting, TSF crossed the border between Tunisia and Libya, at the Dehibat border post in the south of Tunisia. TSF’s objective is:

  • to install fixed and mobile connections at Nalut and Jadu, to facilitate the communication of the hospitals in these two towns

Voilà maintenant près de deux mois que TSF est déployé à la frontière de la Libye et de la Tunisie, au camp de transit de La Chucha où des milliers de gens ont trouvé refuge.

An estimated 200,000 have already fled to Tunisia, Egypt and Niger since February 15th, when the uprising began, according to a UN official.

TSF has been deployed on the border between Tunisia and Libya since February 24th.

Every day, our team is providing aid to the displaced populations in the transit camp of La Chucha.

The transit camp - an obligatory stop for all the migrants coming from Libya before they get on buses to the airport in Djerba, a two-hour drive away - has capacity to house 20,000 people.

TSF has been deployed on the border between Tunisia and Libya since February 24th, at the Ras Jedir border post and in the transit camp of Choucha.

Since February 25th TSF has been conducting humanitarian calling operations at the entrance to the transit camp in collaboration with the Tunisian Red Crescent and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

February 26th, 2011 - For one week, following the violent crackdown, thousands of people have fled Libya. Humanitarian organizations face up to a massive drain of populations.

TSF is currently on the Libyan border supporting the humanitarian community and the affected populations.

A first TSF team arrived on 24 February at the Ras Ajdir frontier post near to Ben Guerdane, the first Tunisian town after the Libyan border.

In Libya, the repression escalates following the revolt movements of the population.

Considering the recent events and the thousands of refugees fleeing Libya, a TSF team left the international headquarters on 23 February to Tunisia and reached the Libyan border today to support the refugees.

Tunisians flee the country in hundreds, followed by several refugees from Egypt, Sudan, Iraq, Eritrea, Somalia, Chad and the Palestinian territories, and by the first Libyan civilians. Much of the foreign nationals have already left the country.

En Libye, la répression s'intensifie suite aux mouvements de révolte de la population.

Compte tenu des récents évènements et des milliers de réfugiés fuyant la Libye, une équipe de TSF a quitté le siège international mercredi 23 février pour la Tunisie et a rejoint aujourd'hui la frontière libyenne pour porter assistance aux réfugiés.

Les Tunisiens fuient le pays par centaines, suivis par de nombreux émigrés victimes de violences originaires d'Egypte, du Soudan, d'Iraq, d'Erythrée, de Somalie, du Tchad et de Palestine, et par les premiers civils libyens.
