This Annual Report highlights the impact of the Joint UNDP-DPA Programme on Building National Capacities for Conflict Prevention. In 2017, the Joint Programme provided support to more than 60 countries, including through the deployment of Peace and Development Advisors. Peace and Development Advisors are at the forefront of the Programme’s efforts, they support the UN system to effectively adapt and respond to complex political situations and identify areas for preventive action.

Covering mixed migration to, through & from NORTH AFRICA MIXED MIGRATION HUB
About: MHub is the regional knowledge hub and secretariat for the North Africa Mixed Migration Task Force, comprising of DRC, IOM, OHCHR, RMMS, Save the Children, UNHCR, UNICEF and UNODC. It promotes a human rights-based approach to ensure the protection of people moving in mixed and complex flows to, through and from North Africa.
Scope: This bulletin covers mixed migration trends in Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Sudan, Tunisia, Greece and Italy.
The food markets are characterized by heavy subsidies on cereals which have contributed to keep the prices stables. The government's economic policy strategy is aimed at boosting annual real GDP growth to 5% and cutting unemployment to 12% by end-2020 (from 15.4% at end-2017), by introducing a "new model" of development.
Geneva – IOM, the UN Migration Agency, reports that 26,026 migrants and refugees entered Europe by sea through the first 136 days of 2018, with about 41 per cent arriving in Italy and 38 per cent to Greece, with the remainder (21%) arriving in Spain.
This compares with 55,479 arrivals across the region through the same period last year and about 189,075 at this time in 2016.
Between 1 January and 30 April 2018, 1,731 children arrived in Italy by sea, including 1,439 unaccompanied and separated children (UASC). The numbers of UASC arrivals this year so far have considerably decreased compared to the same period last year, when 5,190 UASC reached Italian shores. However, their proportion among sea arrivals (15%) remains comparable to the first four months of 2017.
Between 1 January and 30 April 2018, 9,467 persons arrived in Italy by sea. This is a 75% decrease compared to sea arrivals in the same period last year (37,235). Sea arrivals in April 2018 (3,171) were higher than in February and March this year, but still a significant reduction compared to April 2017, when nearly 13,000 refugees and migrants reached Italian shores.

This compares with 54,324 arrivals across the region through the same period last year and about 188,000 at this time in 2016.

In Tunisia, UNHCR aims to support the establishment of a national asylum system, and to build national capacity for refugee protection.
UNHCR identifies, assists and protects refugees in a context marked by mixed migration movements. UNHCR also maintains preparedness efforts in view of a potential major influx.
Together with its partners, UNHCR identifies solutions to help refugees build a new life through socio-economic integration, resettlement and other alternative pathways.
