The Government of Tunisia extended every month the state of emergency declared after November 2015 attack on elite presidential guards in the capital. The state of emergency confers exceptional powers on Tunisian authorities, notably to forbid strikes and public gatherings, close movie theatres and control the press.

The fragile political situation in Libya continue to have an impact on the security situation in Tunisia.

In Egypt, the situation remains tensed in North Sinai Governorate with regular security incidents affecting greater Cairo and the Nile Delta.

Islamic Relief is supporting families who have been affected by severe flooding in Tunisia.

Heavy rainfall earlier this month caused the Oued Medjerda river and its tributaries to overflow and the area of Jendouba, in north west Tunisia, has been badly affected, with flood water reaching nearly two metres high.

TUNIS, 3rd March 2015 (WAM) --- The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation has launched the second phase of its aid campaign for families affected by the cold wave and floods in Tunis.

An official source at the foundation said that the campaign is being implemented in accordance with the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.

Economics of Climate Change in the Arab World presents detailed case studies on the impacts of climate change in the Syrian Arab Republic, Tunisia, and the Republic of Yemen that were summarized. The Arab region is already being impacted by climate change through more frequent cyclones, floods, and prolonged droughts. Thousands of rural producers have seen their crops and herds devastated by extreme conditions, and have been forced to abandon their traditional way of life and migrate to crowded urban areas.

This was recently demonstrated by the Tunisian statistical agency of a region where rural communities face a daily struggle against tough agricultural and environmental conditions. This beautiful mountainous part of Tunisia is rich in natural resources with 75 percent of the national water supply and more than half the country’s forests. But these assets have been over exploited and badly managed.

Synopsis

Many cities in sub-Saharan Africa experienced flash and/or Riverine floods in August 2012. Favorable conditions for moderate to heavy precipitation associated to a very active monsoon included an active phase of the MJO, an ENSO in its transition phase toward El Nino and an above normal temperature pattern over the Mediterranean region interacting with the African summer monsoon.
This report describes these patterns, related flooding events and impacts.
