The report is based on incidents identified in open sources and reported by Aid in Danger partner agencies using the Security in Numbers Database (SiND). The focus is on countries where possible changing or emerging risks can be identified. The total number of reported incidents below reflects the willingness of agencies to share information. It is neither a complete count nor representative.

Alert in Cameroun: 27 suspected cases notified from the Prison of Kribi. Samples were tested negative although issues in sampling were registered (lack of Cary-Blair and delays in transport – 4 days). No definitive conclusion can then be drawn upon these analyses.

Congo Basin: Significant incidence notified from Kongo Central (Gombe Matadi), and from the provinces of Taganyika (Kabalo, Kalemie, Nyemba), South Kivu (Fizi, Kimbi Lilenge) and Haut Katanga (Kilwa).

CHOLERA INFECTS OVER 230 PEOPLE

As of 25 August, 235 cholera cases and 25 deaths were recorded in the ongoing outbreak that was declared on 11 August. The Ministry of Health and the joint WASH and Health task force are intensifying response, including setting up water chlorination points, distribution of water purification kits, campaigns on proper hygiene practices and treatment of patients. A hotline remains operational for any cholera-related issues from the general public.

12 MORTS DANS L’ÉPIDÉMIE DE FIÈVRE DE LASSA

Au 5 février, 25 cas suspects de fièvre de Lassa, dont 12 décès, avaient été signalés dans le pays. La maladie a été détectée pour la première fois le 5 janvier suite à la mort d'un patient dans un hôpital de la localité centrale de Tchaourou. Parmi les mesures de prévention, le gouvernement et les partenaires de la santé procèdent à l'enregistrement des contacts, la mise en place d’unités d’isolation et le stockage de médicaments et d'équipements.

12 DEAD IN LASSA FEVER OUTBREAK

As of 5 February, 25 suspected cases of Lassa fever including 12 deaths had been reported in the country. The disease was first detected on 5 January following the death of a patient at a hospital in the central Tchaourou locality. Among other prevention measures, the Government and health partners are registering contacts, have set up isolations units and are stocking up on medication and equipment.
