Finding Solutions
Voluntary repatriation is the most viable durable solution for Ivorian refugees in West Africa. UNHCR also pursues local integration and resettlement, the latter as a protection tool. UNHCR in Côte d’Ivoire has been implementing community-based programmes to address the needs and improve the living conditions of returnees, refugees, former IDPs, and stateless people.

The Ghana Refugee Board (GRB) and UNHCR are working toward securing sustainable and durable solutions for Togolese refugees in Ghana.
Support for local integration will be achieved by obtaining an alternative durable legal status (indefinite residence status or naturalization) based on the favorable legal and policy framework, coupled with issuing nationality documents to prevent statelessness.

The African Development Bank called on global partners to join hands to lift one billion people worldwide out of hunger and said it was leading the way by investing US$24 billion in African agriculture over the next 10 years in the largest such effort ever.

(Dakar) – Two Togolese have recently been discovered to be among about 50 West African migrants massacred in 2005 by a paramilitary unit controlled by former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh, Human Rights Watch and TRIAL International said today.
