An estimated 3,492 children have been infected with Ebola, and a far greater number of children have lost one or both parents or caregivers in this crisis.

ECOWAS Member States have pledged to deploy over the next six months, some 192 military medical personnel to strengthen the fight against the Ebola epidemic in the region’s most affected countries.

Rising from an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff (CCDS) in Accra on Monday 8th December 2014, Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo pledged to contribute eight military personnel each, including two medical doctors and six other health officers to be rotated every two months.

Summary: 8 December 2014, Brussels - EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Development, Neven Mimica, has announced €61 million of new support in response to the Ebola crisis in the affected countries of West Africa, during a visit to Guinea.   • In response to the outbreak of circulating vaccine-derived poliovirus (cVDPV) in South Sudan, over 19,000 children were vaccinated last week in Bentiu Poc, where the two cases were reported. Outbreak response plans are in place to hold three rounds of supplementary immunization activities (SIAs) in high risk areas to stop transmission of the virus.
