As of 18 December 2006, the Ministry of Health, Togo reported 3 cases of yellow fever in 2 adjacent districts, Dankpen district, Kara region and Oti district, Savanes region in the northern part of the country. Yellow fever has been laboratory confirmed in the three cases (males aged 9, 15 and 20) by Institut Pasteur, Dakar, Senegal.

A team from the Ministry of Health and the WHO country office are currently carrying out a field investigation. Since the most recent mass vaccination campaign in this area was conducted in 1987, there are concerns for a highly susceptible population.

Dakar, 5 décembre 2006 : Les Nations Unies lancent ce mardi à Dakar un appel de fonds de 309 millions de dollars pour l'Afrique de l'Ouest afin de couvrir les besoins en aide humanitaire de cette région, l'une des plus pauvres du monde, pour 2007.

L'appel est destiné à couvrir les besoins humanitaires, tous secteurs confondus (agricole, alimentaire, eau, assainissement, santé, lutte contre les violences sexuelles, protection des enfants affectés par les conflits armés...) dans 16 pays de la sous région.

If all rich countries gave a single cent per $100 of their respective gross national products, full funding would be achieved for the Humanitarian Appeal 2007, United Nations Emergency Relief Coordinator Jan Egeland said today as he called on States to find the $3.9 billion needed for that effort.

He said that amount represented a decrease from last year's Humanitarian Appeal for $4.7 billion, of which $3.1 billion, or 63 per cent, had been received and had helped 31 million people this year.

Le gouvernement togolais a décidé mercredi la mise en place d'un comité pour favoriser le retour de plusieurs milliers de Togolais réfugiés au Bénin et au Ghana après les violences qui ont marqué le scrutin présidentiel de 2005.
