Security Highlights:

  • In August, Nigeria witnessed an upsurge in Boko Haram attacks in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe States – resulting in more than 200 security incidents. Over 125 people were reportedly killed in the attacks.
    Consequently, widespread attacks, counter-insurgency activities as well as impassable roads impeded access to people in need of assistance, especially in not-easy-to-reach areas.

The European Commission has allocated €26.5 million in emergency aid for vulnerable families affected by the humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic and its spill-over into neighbouring countries.

The funding comes as some 2.5 million, half the country's population, are in need of assistance, with the crisis triggering an influx of refugees into neighbouring countries.

Dakar – In August 2018 IOM, the UN Migration Agency, conducted the first climate data collection and tracking exercise in the four countries around the Lake Chad Basin – Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria – to gather baseline data on the nexus between climate change, conflict, migration and livelihoods.

Throughout the region, 3,685 households and 475 key informants were interviewed in locations selected based on their proximity to the Lake and their experience of climate events and conflict.

Conduit en toute sécurité et dignité, il s’agit d’une solution durable à la situation d’exil prolongée des soudanais au Tchad.

La population totale des réfugiés et demandeurs d'asile est passée de 446.091 personnes (fin du mois de juillet) à 449.748 à la fin du mois d'août 2018 représentant une augmentation globale de 0.8%. Cette augmentation résulte essentiellement des activités de l'enregistrement niveau 2 des réfugiés centrafricains au Sud, des requérants d'asile dans les camps de l'Est et en milieu urbain ainsi que la régularisation des naissances dans les camps de réfugiés et à N'Djamena.

Sur invitation du gouvernement de la République du Tchad, la première réunion de la Commission Tripartite pour le rapatriement librement consenti des réfugiés soudanais vivant au Tchad s'est tenue à N'Djamena le 14 septembre 2018. Cette réunion a été précédée de celle du Groupe de Travail Technique.

  2. La délégation du Gouvernement de la République du Soudan était conduite par Monsieur Hamad ELGIZOULI MOROWA, Commissaire des Réfugiés de la République du Soudan (COR).

The 2017 Sudan Participatory Assessment, conducted between October and December 2017, involved 6,009 Persons of Concern to UNHCR engaged through some 385 semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, individual interviews and participatory observation sessions. This assessment exercise was conducted by UNHCR in collaboration with partners, actively supported by the Government of Sudan, to engage refugees, asylum-seekers and refugee returnees – women, men, girls and boys of di fferent age, gender, nationality and ability – to identify their needs and examine ways to address them.
