Background

As part of the ‘Strengthening Accountability in Chad’ project,
Ground Truth Solutions (GTS) is responsible for gathering the views, perceptions, and priorities of affected people on the implementation of the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP) 2017 - 2019. This project is a collaboration between Ground Truth Solutions and the CHS Alliance and is funded by the Swedish Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

DAKAR, Sept 10 (Thomson Reuters Foundation) - Nearly 100 human trafficking victims have been rescued in a major police operation in Sudan, including dozens of children forced to work in illegal gold mines, Interpol said on Monday.

Operation Sawiyan involved 200 Sudanese police officers who rescued 94 people, including 85 minors, from criminal networks in and around the capital, Khartoum, in an Interpol-led week-long crackdown last month, the global police organisation said.

Chad's Humanitarian Response Plan for 2017-2019 sets out three strategic objectives:

• To save and preserve the lives and dignity of affected populations

With the crisis entering its ninth year and showing no signs of abating despite recent efforts, 10.7 million people continue to be in urgent need of life-saving assistance across north-east Nigeria, far-north Cameroon, Western Chad and south-east Niger. Nearly 2.4 million people are displaced with fresh waves of violence and human rights abuses resulting in thousands arriving into congested sites on a weekly basis.

Eleven international organisations call for increased protection and support to civilians bearing the brunt of the conflict in the Lake Chad region.

On 3 and 4 September, ministers from the affected countries as well as Governors of the Lake Chad region, alongside donor countries, UN organisations, international and regional organisations, and civil society representatives will meet in Berlin, Germany, for a two-day high-level conference on the Lake Chad region, including parts of Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Niger.

En 2015, près de 80 000 personnes avaient déjà dû quitter leurs villages sur les îles du Lac en réponse à l’insécurité. Fin 2017, une triple dynamique était ainsi à l’oeuvre dans la région.
