Militiamen torched a mosque which people were building in a village in Kutum locality in North Darfur on Friday, in disapproval against the return of displaced people.
The building in Labous village was being constructed by a group of people, including some displaced, in advance of the return of other displaced people from Kassab and Fata Borno camps.
Sudanese refugees in camp Touloum in eastern Chad have refused to be classified into three categories with regard to eligibility for food assistance.
In a memorandum submitted to a delegation of international and local organisations that visited the refugee camp on Thursday, they explained that the organisation responsible for food distribution has classified the refugees into three categories according to eligibility for food assistance, and printed red, yellow and green cards under that classification.
October 31, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s Refugee Commission said Chad is currently hosting over 300,000 Sudanese refugees pointing out that 50% of them have expressed their desire to return to the country voluntarily.
On Tuesday, the State Minister of Interior Musa Madibu visited the Refugee Commission to learn about the efforts it exerts on various issues including voluntary return, human trafficking and mixed migration.
September 7, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The United Nations special envoy to Libya Ghassan Salameh has called on the UN Security Council (UNSC) to seek to implement the border agreement signed between Sudan, Libya and Chad.
More than 60 people have been killed and 159 injured in renewed fighting among militias in Tripoli last month. On 4 September, UN mission brokered a ceasefire between the major parties to the conflict.
Sudanese refugees in eastern Chad protest the suspension of food rations since early August.
Sheikh Yahya Adam Nadeef, head of the Congo camp for Darfur refugees in eastern Chad told Radio Dabanga that the Chadian organisation responsible for the distribution of food decided to divide the camp residents into three categories: capable, medium and vulnerable.
“They then announced that only the medium and the weak would receive food rations, but the refugees opposed the change, saying that they all are vulnerable and need support.”
Four Sudanese refugees were arrested in a refugee camp in eastern Chad one week ago for criticising plans for the voluntary return of the refugees to Darfur.
Chadian authorities arrested the four Sudanese refugees from Gaga camp on July 31. The four, Abu Bakr Mahmoud Khatir, Adam Sharif, Yahya Hamid and Hammad Ahmad are being held in Um Leyouna prison, 70 kilometres east of Abeche.
June 11, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The humanitarian commission in Darfur said a third batch of Sudanese refugees has arrived in Tina locality in North Darfur State from Chad.
In press statements on Sunday, the deputy commissioner of refugees in Darfur Mugeeb Ulrahman Mohamed Yacoub said 62 families including 187 refugees have arrived in Tina.
He pointed out that two families lagged behind due to health reasons, saying the returnees have been transferred to their original villages in Kutum, Kernoi, Kabkabiya and El-Fasher localities.
June 2, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Foreign Ministry in the Libyan Government of National Accord (GNA) said a quadripartite agreement to control and monitor borders among Libya, Sudan, Chad and Niger has been signed in Ndjamena.
In a statement issued on Friday, Libya’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Al-Sayala said his country is resolved to provide its expertise to promote cooperation to protect the joint borders in order to achieve peace, security, good-neighbourliness and economic and social development.

Unidentified gunmen killed four returnees and wounded six others in an attack by unknown gunmen on the village of Jamra in South Darfur’s Katila on Thursday.

January 21, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s Ministry of Interior on Sunday said the governance and administration sector at the Council of Ministers have approved the tripartite agreement on the voluntary return of Sudanese refugees from Chad.
On 31 May 2017, Sudan, Chad and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) signed two separate tripartite agreements on the voluntary return of Sudanese refugees from Chad and Chadian refugees from Sudan.
The agreements provide that any repatriation should be voluntary and on the basis of well-informed consent.

Hundreds of African refugees are being bought and sold in “slave markets” across Libya every week, a human trafficker has told Al Jazeera, with many of them held for ransom or forced into prostitution and sexual exploitation to pay their captors and smugglers.
Many of them ended up being murdered by their smugglers in the open desert or die from thirst or car accidents in the vast Libyan desert.
Geneaina, Oct. 22 (SUNA) -The Sudan and Chad on Sunday launched, the third borders meeting for the return of Sudanese refugees resident in camps in eastern Chad, and the return of Chadian refugees from the Sudan to their homeareas.
The opening sitting of the meetings was addressed by the Minister of Social Affairs the acting Governor of West Darfur, Mohamed Ibrahim Sharaf Eddin, who commended the government and people of Chad for hosting the Sudanese refugees during such a long period of time.
October 15, 2017 (KHARTOUM) - Dozens of Sudanese families refugees in Chad have recently returned to West Darfur state, announced the commissioner for voluntary return on Sunday
Darfur Commissioner for Voluntary Return, Taj al-din Ibrahim al-Tahir, said dozens of families that were in eastern Chad returned and resettled to Beida area in the state of West Darfur.
Al-Tahir said the Office of Voluntary Return is working in coordination with the state authorities to provide the needed support to the returnees.
