During the first nine months of 2018, just under 25,100 refugees were submitted by UNHCR for resettlement' to 19 countries in Europe.2 This is 24% less than the same period in 2017, but already two-thirds more than the average rate of 15,400 submissions per year during the previous 10 years.

Au Mali, le nombre d’individus observés aux 10 Points de suivi des flux en juin 2018 était de 7 194 (3 782 entrants et 3 412 sortants). Le nombre moyen d’individu identifiés en juin 2018 était de 240 personnes par jour, représentant une baisse de 16% par rapport au mois précédent. Les ressortissants Maliens, Guinéens, Ivoiriens, Sénégalais et Gambiens représentaient 82% des migrants identifiés. 83% des migrants étaient des hommes et 5% d’entre eux étaient des mineurs. L’Algérie, la Mauritanie, le Niger et le Burkina Faso sont les principaux points de transit après le Mali.

According to the ‘Report the Abuse’ survey, 86% of aid workers know a colleague who has experienced sexual violence associated with their work. Yet sexual violence in humanitarian settings is rarely reported as a security incident. Aid agencies are not reporting sexual violence numbers.

N’Djamena, 21 mars 2018 (UNHCR) – Un groupe de 27 réfugiés dont 17 enfants a quitté la capitale du Tchad, N'Djamena, par avion ce 20 mars 2018 pour la France. Ces réfugiés admis à la réinstallation sont de différents camps de réfugiés du Tchad. Il s’agit, pour l’année 2018, de la 2e vague de départ pour la France. D’autres suivront les prochaines semaines.

Overview

During 2017, almost 38,900 refugees were submitted by UNHCR for resettlement1 to 25 countries in Europe,2 36% more than during 2016 and over three times greater than the average rate of 12,400 submissions per year during the last decade.
Between 2007 and 2016, Europe’s proportion of resettlement sub-missions globally has increased from approximately 9% to more than 18%, and in 2017 reached 52%. This is primarily due to a significant decrease globally in new submissions for resettlement, most notably to the United States of America.

The UK is to bolster a key French counter-terrorism operation in Africa by deploying three RAF Chinook helicopters to Mali.

The Prime Minister is expected to make the announcement as part of the UK-France Summit at The Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, where she will discuss the UK’s strong and wide-ranging bilateral relationship with President Macron.

The helicopters, which will provide logistic support to French troops, are part of a wider effort to increase stability in the Sahel region of Africa in order to tackle Islamist terrorism.
