Between July and September 2018, Flow Monitoring Points (FMPs) were active in seven countries across the West and Central Africa region: Burkina Faso, Guinea, Chad, Mali, Niger, Nigeria and Senegal. On average, 5,440 travellers were observed daily at Flow Monitoring Points set up in the West and Central Africa region. This represented a fifteen per cent increase when compared to the second quarter (AprilJune 2018).

  • Preliminary crop assessment figures in West Africa indicate that the 2018/19 aggregate cereal production will be 74.2 million metric tons (MMT), eight percent above last season (2017/18) and 19 percent above the five-year average (2013/14 to 2017/18). Although national-level production decreases are expected in structurally deficit countries, production of major cereal crops has grown significantly compared to last year, namely maize production.

The Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) monitors trends in staple food prices in countries vulnerable to food insecurity. For each FEWS NET country and region, the Price Bulletin provides a set of charts showing monthly prices in the current marketing year in selected urban centers and allowing users to compare current trends with both five-year average prices, indicative of seasonal trends, and prices in the previous year.

In northern Niger, two flow monitoring points have been activated since February 2016 in the city of Séguédine and Arlit, followed by the activation of new flow monitoring points in Dan Barto, Magaria and Tahoua in August 2018 and the point in Dan Issa in September 2018.

This report presents the data collected through the 6 flow monitoring points for the month of November 2018.

Les jeunes représentent une ressource incommensurable pour la région, mais leur potentiel ne sera réalisé qu’une fois que les bons investissements auront été faits dans leur éducation, leur santé, leurs compétences et leur autonomisation.

Indeed, man’s quest for peace and justice has never ceased to grow in a constantly changing world. A world that celebrates peace but does not hesitate to resort to violence and conflict.

En effet, la quête de l’homme pour la paix et la justice n’a jamais cessé de grandir dans un monde en perpétuel changement. Un monde qui célèbre la paix mais qui n’hésite pas à recourir à la violence et aux conflits.

The 22th round of data collection took place in September and October 2018.
Between 26 August and 24 September 2018, southern Tripoli witnessed clashes between armed groups, triggering population movements of both local populations and migrants to safer locations, often in near-by municipalities. Following the end of hostilities, these movements were reversed as the situation gradually stabilized and livelihood opportunities, such as daily labor, became available again for migrants.

12 November 2018: In Toulfé village, Loroum province, four armed men on motorcycles stormed into the General Education College, where they threatened and lashed teachers before ordering them to leave the school premises.
