KAMPALA, 21 June 2017 - The Directorate-General for European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO) has contributed 2 million Euros – 8 billion Uganda shillings - to UNICEF’s emergency nutrition and education response to the South Sudanese refugee crisis in Uganda.

“With over 2,000 South Sudanese refugees arriving in Uganda every day since July 2016, Uganda is now host to the fastest growing refugee crisis in the world,” said Isabelle D'Haudt, ECHO’s Humanitarian Advisor for Uganda.

BRUSSELS - Despite international efforts to address food insecurity, around 108 million people in the world were severely food insecure in 2016, a dramatic increase compared with 80 million in 2015, according to a new global report on food crises released in Brussels today.

The European Union, FAO and WFP have joined forces with FEWS NET, UNICEF and regional organisations like CILSS, IGAD and SICA to coordinate needs assessment to increase the impact of humanitarian and resilience responses through the preparation of the “Global Report on Food Crises”. This Global Report aims to enhance coordination and decision making through a neutral analysis that informs programming and implementation.

KAMPALA, 13th April 2015- The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) has provided an additional 1 Million Euros contribution to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to support the agency’s 2015 emergency response to South Sudanese refugees in Uganda.

UNICEF will support four main interventions in the districts of Adjumani, Arua, Koboko, Yumbe and Kiryandogo in northern Uganda.
