In the abandoned town and villages of Pageri County, community members are gradually and voluntarily returning from refugee camps in Uganda and Kenya. Over 300 returnees have resettled in Pageri in recent months, after having fled the area following the crisis in 2016.

The people of Pageri have cited the occupation of cattle from the Jonglei region, and the distrustful relationship between them and the army’s Tiger battalion, as hindrances to their return.

July 7, 2018 (JUBA) – At least 25 people died in a sectional fight that erupted in Akobo on Friday between two sub-clans, officials said in a statement.

"We the members of Akobo county in Ethiopia are deeply disturbed by the outbreak of sectional fighting between Chie-Yol and Chie-Nyak of Moor sub-clan of Lou Nuer,” partly reads the statement Sudan Tribune obtained.

The two sub-clans are the biggest within the Lou Nuer tribe.

The clash was a revenge attack allegedly carried out by the Chie-Nyak sub-clan after their men were killed by attackers from Chie-Yol.

July 8, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s foreign minister El-Dirdeiry Mohamed Ahmed said talks on the outstanding issues in the implementation of South Sudan peace agreement will continue in Khartoum for additional three days.

The Khartoum round of talks between the South Sudanese parties on the outstanding issues in security arrangements and governance chapters of the 2015 peace agreement was initially scheduled to conclude on 9 July.

July 3, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s White Nile State said it has received 225 South Sudanese refugees earlier this week.

Director of refugees department at the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in the White Nile Mustafa al-Fadil said the refugees arrived at Sangour camps via Jodat Al-Adl border crossing.

He pointed out that representatives from the United Nations and a number of donor countries have visited refugee camps at Al-Salam and Al-Jabalein localities, saying they vowed to provide food and the necessary services for the refugees.

June 24, 2018 (ARUA) – Police in Uganda are holding 10 South Sudanese refugees over the killing of their colleagues at a refugee camp in the country.

Those arrested are suspected to have been involved in a fracas, which saw four killed after a football argument went bad.

The West Nile regional police spokesperson, Josephine Angucia confirmed the arrest, saying they would carry out an investigation.

During their meeting in Addis Ababa on 20 June, the two leaders failed to agree on the outstanding issues, also President Kiir reiterated his rejection to work with Machar personally as First Vice President, a position that poisoned the talks environment.

June 12, 2018 (RABAK) - The government of the White Nile State said it would transfer 25,000 South Sudanese refugees from an overcrowded camp to a newly erected camp in July.

More than 25,000 South Sudanese refugees would be transferred from the overcrowded Khor Al-Waral camp to Al-Jami’ia camp in Al-Salam locality.

The director of the department of organizations and refugee affairs at the Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in White Nile Mustafa al-Fadil said the transfer of refugees aims to reduce overcrowding and prevent the spread of epidemics.

June 9, 2018 (JUBA) - The Polish Medical Mission (PMM) is set to deliver food aid to South Sudan, a country facing a civil war that has displaced millions of people since mid-December 2013.

"We shall be delivering assistance to three regions - the East and West Mundri counties as well as Mvolo. Our food aid will be distributed among women and children in those areas," Magorzata Olasiska-Chart, the head of the PMM told Polish Radio Saturday.

Poland established diplomatic relations with the Republic of South Sudan in January 2013.

May 26, 2018 (JUBA) - China has handed over 2,048 tonnes of rice to the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to assist millions of people affected by the conflict in war-torn South Sudan.

The donation is reportedly part of 8,800 tonnes of rice Beijing pledged to the young nation in 2017 to fight severe food shortage.

April 28, 2018 (JUBA) - A team from the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) is expected in Juba on Sunday for consultations with the country’s authorities, a senior government official disclosed on Friday.

Discussions will mainly focus on the revitalization of the peace process.

Information minister, Michael Makuei said they welcome the IGAD team.

On Thursday, the regional bloc announced the adjournment of the peace talks to 17-21 May, citing the need for more time to allow the continue engaging the various parties involved in the peace talks.

April 28, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Member of the government delegation to the Two Areas talks Abdel-Rahman Abu Median said large numbers of Sudanese refugees have returned to the Blue Nile from Ethiopia.

Blue Nile State and neighbouring South Kordofan state have been the scene of violent conflict between the SPLM-N and the Sudanese army since 2011.

Abu Median disclosed refugees have voluntarily returned to their original areas in Kurmuk, Gisan and Wad Al-Mahi due to the stable security situation in the state.

April 20, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - A government official at the Blue Nile State on Friday said thousands of refugees have recently returned to the state from South Sudan and Ethiopia.

April 14, 2018 (JUBA) – The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), the body monitoring the implementation of South Sudan’s peace accord, has been urged to involved women in the ongoing peace process.

The decision was reached on Friday during a meeting which JMEC officials held with a team from the Swedish ministry for foreign affairs.

The team is in South Sudan as part of a study tour to several countries to understand how gender issues are integrated into the United Nation mission’s implementation of its mandate and for its partners.

March 18, 2018 (KHARTOUM) Sudan's refugee commissioner Hamad al-Gizouli said arrangements are underway to transfer the South Sudanese refugees to new areas outside of the capital, Khartoum.

Speaking at a workshop on the outcome of a recent survey about the status of South Sudan refugees on Sunday, al-Gizouli said South Sudanese refugees are present in all Sudanese states which pose a real challenge to the government.

The Secretary-General of the White Nile State government and chairman of the technical coordination committee for refugee affairs, Al-Tayeb Mohamed Abdallah said his state has so far received 148,065 South Sudanese refugees.
