January 16, 2018 (JUBA) - International donors have snubbed calls to fund South Sudan peace monitors putting at risk the functioning of the body responsible for monitoring and verifying the implementation permanent ceasefire revealed its chairman body, Maj Gen Desta Abiche Ageno.

Speaking at the 7th meeting of the Technical Committee of Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) in Juba on Wednesday, Ageno told the participants that the financial constraints are affecting the monitoring body.

January 4, 2019 (JUBA) – 50 South Sudanese journalists will benefit from a three-day training on refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs) and returnees issues within the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS), a civil society body said.

Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), in a statement, said the event will be held in the capital, Juba.

December 26, 2018 (JUBA) - South Sudanese army chief of staff General Gabriel Jok Riak and the SPLA-IO Deputy Chief of staff Lt. Gen. James Koang Chuol Ranley joined thousands of South Sudanese in Bentiu to celebrate the revitalized peace agreement last Monday.

The function which was organized by the Northern Liech Governor Nguen Monytuil Wijang was also attended by the SPLM-IO Governor of Northern Liech Tor Tunguar who came with an important political and military delegation.

December 19, 2018 (JUBA) - The former South Sudan army chief of staff turned rebel leader Paul Malong agreed to observe the ceasefire agreement and said he was willing to seek a peaceful settlement for the armed conflict in South Sudan.

Malong sought in the past to join the IGAD mediated peace process but the mediators declined his request pointing he was under international sanctions; however, sources said that Juba was behind his exclusion from the process.

December 15, 2018 (JUBA) - South Sudanese government pledged to share with the UN Commission on Human Rights the findings of its investigation into the recent sexual attacks outside Bentinu of Northern Liech State in South Sudan

On 30 November, the international medical non-governmental organization Médecins Sans Frontihères (MSF) reported that at least 157 women and girls have so far sought treatment for sexual violence suffered at one of its clinics.

The peace celebration attracted many people who come to Yambio Freedom Squares where they met with the SPLA-IO fighters who took guns and entered the bush to fight the government forces Gbudue and Tombura states.

December 10, 2018 (JUBA) - December South Sudanese President Salva Kiir has directed to ensure that the returnees can regain possession of their homes when they return to their areas of origin.

The directive was announced Monday after a meeting of the National Security Committee Council (NSCC) chaired by President Kiir held at the presidency in Juba on Monday.

The Minister of Interior and NSCC Spokesperson Michael Chienjiek said the Council listened to the security reports from the chief of defence forces, and other security organs.

December 9, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) has started a series of meetings with the Sudanese parties to discuss ways to amend the Roadmap Agreement (RMA) for peace in Sudan.

But, the SPLM-N Agar warned that Khartoum has already bypassed the mediation’s proposal by adopting the electoral law.

In September 2018, the AUHIP called to review the roadmap which was signed by the government in March 2016 and the opposition alliance in August of the same year saying the conditions have changed after over two and half years.

December 4, 2018 (ADJUMANI) – South Sudanese refugees living in Nyumanzi, a refugee camp in Uganda’s northwestern district of Adjumani have been urged to co-exist peacefully with the host community.

About 43,000 South Sudanese refugees live in Nyumanzi, officials say.

Speaking at an essay award giving ceremony for primary school pupils who excelled, Daud Gideon, the Executive Director for Remembering The Ones We Lost, lauded all those who participated in the contest, which attracted 89 pupils drawn from four schools.

November 29, 2018 (JUBA) - First comes a hacking cough, with mucus and blood. As the bacteria starts to infect the lungs, eating away at the tissue, the night sweats start and a high fever develops. Over time, extreme tiredness sets in, along with a loss of appetite and weight.

If left untreated, pulmonary TB will severely weaken an infected person, leaving them emaciated. Eventually, their lungs will fill with liquid, causing chronic respiratory failure. At this stage, treatment is too late. The patient will die.

November 27, 2018 (JUBA) - The holdout opposition National Salvation Front (NAS) supported the rejection of the revitalized peace agreement decided by its leadership and called to negotiate a sustainable peace addressing the root causes of the conflict in South Sudan.

From 23 to 25 November 2018, NAS political and military leaders held a leadership conference chaired by the Front’s chairperson Thomas Cirillo Swaka to assess the political situation and the next steps after its rejection of the revitalized peace pact last September.

November 20, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The government of White Nile State on Tuesday said it has dispatched 4 humanitarian caravans to South Sudan.

The semi-official Sudan Media Center (SMC) quoted the director of aid groups department at the Humanitarian Aid Commission in White Nile, Mustafa al-Kamel, as saying the caravans have been dispatched to Upper Nile and Bahr el-Ghazal provinces via the Joda border crossing point.

He pointed out that the caravans contained 160 tons of sorghum, 400 packages of edible oils as well as large quantities of legumes, flour and rice.

November 6, 2108 (JUBA) - Officials from the South Sudanese government army, SSPDF, and the main opposition army, SPLA-IO, agreed to allow humanitarian access and free movement of people around Juba.

Upon the instruction of their two chiefs of staff, the SPLA-IO forces based around Juba, and their peace partners from the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF) held a meeting on Sunday 4 November to discuss security measures to ensure humanitarian access to civilians and enable free movement of persons and goods.

September 23, 2018 (GULU) – A group of refugees living in Uganda have appealed to South Sudan’s warring factions to ensure the recently signed peace agreement is fully implemented.

The group, which comprised of 20 youth, were deliberating at a one-day workshop organized by Remembering Ones We Lost (ROWL) on the theme ‘Youth dialogue on sustainable peace in South Sudan’.
