Au cours de cette première visite, depuis sa nomination en février 2017, en sa qualité du Chef du Département des Opérations de maintien de la paix de l’ONU M. Jean-Pierre Lacroix rencontrera les autorités congolaises, notamment le chef de l’Etat, le ministre des Affaires étrangères, les membres de l’Assemblée nationale, etc.

Kinshasa, 16 January 2017 - The United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region, Said Djinnit, and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) for the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Head of the United Nations Stabilization Mission in the Congo (MONUSCO), Maman Sidikou, kick-started a series of joint consultations in Goma and Kinshasa, DRC, on 12 January 2017, to address the presence of elements of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/Army-In Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) in eastern DRC.

Kinshasa, 20 September 2016 - A joint assessment mission team composed of the DRC Minister of Defence and other GoDRC representatives, MONUSCO Force Commander and civilian members from 20-22 September will visit several locations in North Kivu, Orientale, Ituri and Haut-Uele provinces with a view to eventually identifying a suitable transit centre for the SPLM/A IO elements extracted from the Garamba National Park, whilst intensive efforts are ongoing to determine a sustainable solution for this group.

The office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in Dungu, district of Haut-Uele, Eastern Province, noticed since early 2014, a flow of Congolese refugees returning home from Makpandu camp, in the South Sudan, about 60 Km away from the Congolese border.

Since 2008, progressive sedentarization of roughly 357 000 people was noticed, following recurrent activities of the Ugandan rebels of the Lord Resistance Army (LRA), who frequently perpetrate exactions against the local population.

    MONUSCO conducts targeted military operations unilaterally as well as jointly with the FARDC with the aim of protecting civilians. ƒ

  • This includes establishing a number of forward operating bases from which the Mission conducts day and night patrols and carries out a range of protection activities, including market escorts and escorting farmers to their fields. ƒ
