Recommendations to the Security Council

Sudan (Darfur)

Six parties, including the Sudanese government forces, are listed for the recruitment and use of children. The Security Council will receive the report on implementation of the review of UNAMID, in accordance with SCR 2173 (2014). The Chair of the 1591 Sanctions Committee will also brief the Council, and it is expected that the Panel of Experts mandate will be renewed, pursuant to SCR 2138 (2014). The Security Council should:

On 1 July 2014, the UN Secretary-General submitted his 13th annual report on children and armed conflict to the Security Council, pursuant to SCR 2068. The Council will discuss the report during a debate on children and armed conflict on 8 September 2014 hosted by the United States.

Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict urges the Security Council to commit to the following actions to strengthen implementation of the Children and Armed Conflict agenda:

This month’s update highlights children and armed conflict concerns and provides recommendations for the protection of children in the situations of the Central African region / Lord’s Resistance Army, Iraq, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Yemen and the Philippines. It includes recommendations in particular for the inclusion of grave violations against children as a specific aspect of all reports published by the UN Secretary-General on the situation in Abyei, along the Sudan-South Sudan border.
