The GenCap Project is as an inter-agency resource, which was established in 2007 under the Inter Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Sub-Working Group on Gender and Humanitarian Action (now the Gender Reference Group and Humanitarian Action). 2014 Annual Narrative Report of IASC Gender Standby Capacity Project
2016 budget (in USD): US$ 3.88 million
Implementation period: 1 January 2016 to 31 December 2016
2016 deployments: 188 months of GenCap Adviser gender mainstreaming deployments and 12 months of Regional Gender Based Violence Adviser deployments, for a total of 200 deployment months for the project.
An Inter-Agency Humanitarian Evaluation (IAHE) was conducted in South Sudan in April 2015 under the auspices of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Transformative Agenda for the global reform of humanitarian action in large-scale emergencies. This was the first such evaluation of a response to a conflict situation and complex political emergency.

Since the initial eruption of violence in December 2013, the humanitarian situation has deteriorated sharply in South Sudan. An estimated 959,000 people are internally displaced (of which 192,000 are in inaccessible areas) with an additional 293,000 refugees in neighbouring countries. As of yet, there is no reliable disaggregation of these figures based on sex and age.
Political and development situation in S Sudan prior to the December 15, 2013 conflict
According to OCHA as of 27 December, 2013, the estimated number of people displaced by in the current crisis in South Sudan has risen to 121,600. Given the limited access to civilians outside population centres, the number is likely to be significantly higher. According to the Humanitarian Coordinator, there are fears that those who have lost lives could number thousands and those displaced hundreds of thousands.
