Overview

The two-year strategy for CCCM is intended to guide the Cluster interventions in South Sudan for the years 2018 and 2019. The strategy is a collective outcome of ideas from a number of stakeholders including agencies offering direct camp management, the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) (Return, Reintegration and Protection- RRP, and Civil Affairs Division- CAD, as well as other Clusters within the humanitarian coordination architecture in the country.

The Logistics Cluster supports humanitarian actors in South Sudan with road convoy coordination throughout the dry season. This document outlines operational procedures that convoy participants must follow.

  1. Deadlines – Organisations must strictly adhere to deadlines provided by the Logistics Cluster. All humanitarian road convoy plans and the respective deadlines will be communicated via the Logistics Cluster mailing list.

Afghanistan

Displacement continues to affect Afghanistan with over 27,000 new IDPs in the past week. Conflict is the primary reason for displacement, although drought and food insecurity are other important reasons.

Conflict has displaced some 10,000 people in Ghazni, while some 4,000 people have been displaced to Kabul and Bamyan. Other significant population movements have recently been reported in Farah due to shifting territorial control, and in Hirat and Kandahar provinces due to drought.

A global fund that provides rapid humanitarian aid for overlooked crises, is marking the second anniversary of the World Humanitarian Summit by sharing the impact of its 4th year, through its new annual report released today.

The Start Fund fills a critical gap in humanitarian financing. It pools funding from donors for immediate release for underfunded small to medium scale crises, spikes in chronic humanitarian crises, and to act in anticipation of impending crises.

1.0 Background

Maternal and child malnutrition is a significant public health problem in South Sudan. Among children aged 6-59 months, 31% are stunted, 28% are underweight, and nearly 23% are acutely malnourished of which 13% are estimated to suffer from moderate acute malnutrition and 10% from severe acute malnutrition.
