Le vice-Premier ministre et ministre de la Coopération au Développement Alexander De Croo s’est réuni ce midi avec les ONG humanitaires. Outre les membres du consortium 12-12, des représentants de la Croix-Rouge ont également pris part à la concertation. Ensemble, ils ont évoqué la gestion de la crise humanitaire au Yémen, en Somalie, au Nigéria et au Soudan du Sud, quatre pays menacés par la famine. Le ministre a promis de mobiliser aussi vite que possible une première tranche d’aide humanitaire dans le cadre du doublement des fonds versés à Famine 12-12.

Minister De Croo has also planned international demarches. He will look, together with the United Nations, into a way to better tackle the structural causes. “We cannot look away when children are dying of hunger”.

JUBA – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) is grateful to the Government of Belgium for contributing €3 million for WFP to provide emergency food and nutrition assistance to communities facing food shortages in South Sudan.

“Belgium has provided a very timely contribution to our relief operations in a country where the needs keep growing,” said Joyce Luma, WFP Country Director in South Sudan. “This support has helped us scale up assistance to families facing acute hunger and maintain sustenance to conflict-affected communities.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Development Cooperation Alexander De Croo will allocate €3 million for the reception of South Sudanese refugees in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. The Belgian Development Cooperation will support a two-year programme of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). In 2016, our country contributed a total of €21.4 million to the humanitarian work of the UN Refugee Agency.
