Jigjiga May 11/2018 Refugees from Somalia who have been living in camps for over 20 years in Ethiopia have appreciated the measure the government has taken to integrate refugees with host communities.

A forum on refugee response framework was conducted in Jigjiga yesterday.

During the launching of the forum, it was stated that refugees would be able to have access to employment opportunities by getting organized into cooperatives and integrate with the community.

Refugees have expressed their appreciation for the government for implementing the program.

Ethiopia through the Administration for Refugee and Returnees Affairs (ARRA) is working to improve the provision of education to refugees sheltering in camps in the country.

Through the activities carried out so far gross enrolment rate in primary education for refugees has reached 70.5 percent in 2017, according to ARRA.

Currently, some 177,745 refugees are enrolled in primary, secondary, pre-school, and alternative education in refugee camps in various parts of the country.

The 4 person surgeon team that has been rendering medical humanitarian aid for 8 days was dispatched in response to the request of Somalia's government for medical assistance.

Ethiopian government officials received the medical team upon their arrival at Bole International Airport.

The officials from Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan, who talked to ENA, said Ethiopia is a showcase for hosting and treating refugees by enabling them to feel at home.

Mitiku Kassa, Commissioner for Disaster Risk Management told ENA that the support for drought affected people in Somaliland included biscuits, milk and grains.

Some 8,000 quintal various grains, 26,611 cartons of milk and 100 quintals of biscuits were provided to the people hit by drought in Somaliland, he noted.

The Bank offered 100 million USD to implement "Development Response to Displacement Impact Project (DRDIP) In the Horn of Africa."

Refugees sheltered in Afar, Tigray, Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz and Somali states, the five regional states hosting the refugees, and the host community will benefit from a range of development activities implemented by the funding.
