Mogadishu, 10 October 2017 - The African Union Mission in Somalia, (AMISOM) has today handed over an assortment of food items worth $100,000 to the Somali government to aid victims affected by drought.
The 67 metric tonnes comprising rice, sugar, beans and vegetable oil was officially handed over to the Federal government officials by the head of the Mission, Ambassador Francisco Madeira, on behalf of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Moussa Faki Mahamat.
Mogadishu, 08 July 2017 – The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) has donated to the Somali Federal Government, an assortment of food and non-food items to assist drought-affected, internally displaced communities.
Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, said the donation will benefit about 200 households living in a camp for internally displaced persons at Kilometre 13, in the outskirts of the capital Mogadishu.
Mogadishu, 10 May 2017 – EU Ambassador to Somalia H.E Veronique Lorenzo yesterday announced Euro 49 million funding to boost Somalia’s education sector during celebrations to mark European Union’s 60th anniversary since its formation.
The signing of the new education package, took place in the capital Mogadishu, between the EU ambassador and the Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic promotion of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Jamal Mohamed Hassan, during celebrations to mark Europe Day.
Mogadishu, 5 May 2017 – The deteriorating drought situation in Somalia has forced hundreds of families to abandon their homes in search of food and water in major towns.
However, some of the drought victims have adopted ways to beat the worst drought to ever face the Horn of Africa country in the last five years to supplement assistance received from aid agencies.
Beletweyne, 16 April 2017– Youths in Beletwayne have resolved to work closely with the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and Somali security forces to improve security in the region.
The resolution was made last Friday during a two-day conference organized by Hiran Youth, an umbrella youth organization in collaboration with HirShabelle administration.

Mogadishu, 24 March 2017 – The Special Representative of the African Union Commission Chairperson (SRCC), for Somalia Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira today appealed for more AU funding for Quick Impact Projects, in areas liberated from Al Shabaab.
He made the appeal at Ali Haji Primary School in Mogadishu, where he accompanied a visiting delegation of the AU Peace and Security Council.
The school, which caters for an estimated 500 pupils from internally displaced camps within Mogadishu’s Wadajir district, was built with support from AMISOM.
Ethiopian National Defence Forces (ENDF) serving under the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Sunday donated an assortment of foodstuff to vulnerable households in Gobwein village, Lower Jubba region.
The team from AMISOM ENDF led by their contingent commander in Kismaayo, Colonel Regassa Tesfaye and logistics officer Lt. Colonel Tilahun Abraha, visited and distributed the relief supplies in the village, which is 12 kilometres north of Kismaayo.
BAIDOA, 07 January 2017 – The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) troops in Baidoa have distributed foodstuff to 150 needy families affected by drought in the South West State.
The families received dry food rations, including sugar, spaghetti, rice, flour, salt, cooking oil, tea and canned beans.
AMISOM Sector 3 contingent Commander Brigadier General Gabremeskel Gebrezigabe said the troops shared part of their food rations in solidarity with the families during the dry spell.
El Baraf, 27 October 2016 – The African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) on Wednesday made an appeal to international partners and nongovernmental organizations to help provide potable water for residents of the liberated town of El Baraf.
El Baraf, a strategic town sits 150 kilometres from Mogadishu in the Middle Shabelle region.
