Since July 2011, CISP has been carrying out activities in support of primary healthcare at the Mother and Child Health Center (MCH) in Dhusamareeb funded by CHF. Until December 2011, the project, which will be completed in July 2012, has realized the following milestones:

  • 49 children have been delivered through the safe motherhood service;

  • 1719 cases of antenatal attendance have been recorded;

  • 5662 consultations have been recorded in the Out-Patient Department (478 men and 2537 women, 1318 boys and 1329 girls under the age of five);

As World Aids Day is commemorated across the world, CISP renovates its commitment to curtail the spread of HIV in Somalia. CISP’s HIV/AIDS intervention in Somalia started in 2005, in the hospital of the coastal town of Ceel Dheer with Voluntary Confidential Counseling and Testing. "During the first three months, only 3 patients came in for voluntary testing. Now we have 700 patients per quarter and more than 20 thousand people have been tested up to now", says Abdi Tari, CISP medical doctor.

As largely reported in the media, Somalia is facing the most severe humanitarian crisis in the world today. The drought-induced famine, exacerbated by the chronic emergency conditions in the country, is affecting half of the population (3.7 million, including 1.25 million children), two third of which are in the worst affected south-central zone.
