ADDIS ABABA, Dec 28 (Reuters) - Some 10,000 Somalis fleeing drought and food shortages in southern Somalia have crossed the border to Ethiopia in the last week, an Ethiopian official said on Monday.

The refugees are camped in the Warder and Afder zones of Ethiopia's eastern Somali state, said Abubaker Abdi, relief coordinator for the region.

''The refugees were fleeing from drought that has devastated southern Somalia,'' he said.

MOGADISHU, Nov 20 (Reuters) - Hundredsof families have fled their homes in southern Somalia this week after the country's largest river, the Juba, burst its banks and flooded 25 villages in the Middle Juba region, local officials said on Friday.

The officials, contacted by shortwave radio, said 5,000 hectares of land owned by subsistence farmers had been flooded by waters as high as two metres. There were no details of casualties.
