Over the last ten years, it has become evident that the demographic dividend framework offers a strategic basis for focusing and prioritizing investments in people in general and youth in particular, in order to achieve sustainable development. The demographic dividend framework is in line with Africa’s Agenda 2063 and its’ ‘First Ten-Year Implementation Plan’ which together lay a strong foundation for the vision of African leaders in all facets of the continent’s development.

Neighbouring Liberia and Sierra Leone are undergoing post-conflict transitions. And in both countries, national elections are ushering in new administrations. In March, elections will be held in Sierra Leone, and in January, George Weah took over as Liberia’s president from Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Préface

Au nom du Bureau régional pour l’Afrique du PNUD, j’ai le plaisir de présenter le deuxième Rapport sur le développement humain en Afrique, consacré à la concrétisation accélérée de l’égalité des genres sur le continent.

L’égalité des genres n’est pas une priorité de développement nouvelle pour les pays d’Afrique. Son importance est depuis longtemps reconnue à l’échelle du continent.
