Highlights

  • WFP is supporting governmental sensitization campaigns in Guinea by assisting the building of base camps in remote areas.

  • In Liberia, the Logistics Cluster and WFP are responding to the new ebola cases reported in Margibi County.

  • In Sierra Leone, the ET Cluster will provide Internet connectivity in Kambia and Port Loko to support Operation Northern Push.

  • WFP construction of the new helipad for UNHAS helicopters in Coyah, Guinea, is on-going.

COMMON SERVICES IN GUINEA, LIBERIA AND SIERRA LEONE

Highlights

  • In Guinea, the Logistics Cluster and WFP continue to support the governmental sensitization campaigns where transmission of the virus continues.

  • WFP will set up five additional storage units in counties where the Liberian Ministry of Health needs additional storage capacity.

  • In Sierra Leone, WFP and the Logistics Cluster are collaborating with the Government to support the new emergency campaign in Kambia and Port Loko.

Highlights

  • In Guinea, the WFP-led Logistics Cluster is organizing the second training on ‘Logistics Good Practices’ to enhance the preparedness of national logisticians.

  • The Logistics Cluster will facilitate the transportation of 1.5 million medical gloves from Liberia to WHO Guinea on behalf of the Liberian government.

  • A new helicopter connection to Kamsar was introduced to enable humanitarian staff to reach Boke Prefecture, a hotspot close to Guinea-Bissau.

  • At the request of the Government, in Liberia WFP is developing a strategy for the effective transfer of knowledge and assets under the Common Services to government institutions.

  • Resources totaling USD 90 million are required through 31 December 2015, to ensure WFP's ability to continue the provision of Common Services to the humanitarian community, including UNHAS air transportation services, crucial preparedness works at logistics bases for the rainy season and maintenance of ICT services across the three countries.

  • The handover from UNMEER to the ET Cluster of ICT equipment and services across the three countries is complete.

  • The WFP-led Logistics Cluster is supporting the Guinean government in its sensitization campaign on Ebola detection for the population of Coyah.

  • The Logistics Cluster has facilitated the prepositioning of more than 500m3 of Personal Protective Equipment across four counties in Liberia on behalf of the Government.

  • The extension works at the Main Logistics Hub in Port Loko, Sierra Leone, have more than doubled the storage space.

  • WFP and UNHAS have been conducting reconnaissance flights in Guinea to identify suitable landing areas for additional helipads in the hotspot areas.
