I am pleased to be here today to brief you on the situation in West Africa and the implementation of UNOWA’s mandate. Further to the 15th report of the Secretary-General on the activities of the United Nations Office for West Africa (UNOWA) which is before you, I would like to highlight few issues and update you on the most recent developments.

Dakar, 2 September 2014 - Said Djinnit, the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary- General for West Africa (SRSG) convened yesterday a meeting of the regional UN team based in Dakar to review developments in West Africa. The meeting, comprising heads of regional offices of UN entities in the region, reviewed the ongoing efforts to address the Ebola crisis.
Twenty-fourth high-level meeting of Heads of UN Peace Missions in West Africa
Dakar, 8 October, 2012 - The Heads of the United Nations (UN) Peace Missions in West Africa held their twenty-fourth high-level consultation in Dakar to review progress in the coordination of the activities of the United Nations in promoting peace and stability in the sub-region.
UNOWA, Dakar - 05 July 2005. The Fifth Meeting of the Heads of United Nations Peace Missions in West Africa was held in Dakar, Senegal on 5 July 2005 under the chairmanship of Ahmedou Ould-Abdallah, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa (UNOWA). It was attended by Daudi Mwakawago (UNAMSIL), Pierre Schori (ONUCI), Abou Moussa (UNMIL), and Joao Honwana (UNOGBIS), who provided updates on developments in their respective missions.
The SRSGs discussed the progress made in Sierra Leone, as well as the residual problems in that country.
