The quality and accountability of humanitarian response is once again being seriously tested following the West Africa sex scandal. Impunity for aid workers who trade their services for sex and the lack of a response prioritising the protection needs of children and women, in camps where the large majority of the population is women and children, are extremely basic failures.

The overall response by the international community to the deteriorating situation in Guinea since September has been disappointing, to say the least. Hundreds of thousands of refugees have been left without adequate protection or assistance in camps along Guinea's frontiers. Many have been forced to flee further inland or back to Sierra Leone in search of refuge following repeated attacks on the camps since September.
