From 28 February 2017, civil society nutrition champions from 12 SUN Countries came together for a four-day workshop in Dakar, Senegal, to strengthen advocacy capacities for scaling up nutrition. The SUN Civil Society Network Workshop was organized by Action Against Hunger and its partners – UNICEF, Save the Children and Terre des Hommes.

Nutrition for Growth: Sierra Leone’s progress on its commitments 3 years later

Ranking 181/188 in the Human Development Index, Sierra Leone remains one of the countries with the highest maternal and infant mortality rates. According to the 2014 National Nutrition Survey, the Global Acute Malnutrition, Severe Acute Malnutrition and stunting (chronic malnutrition) rates in Sierra Leone stand at 4.7%, 1.0% and 28.8% respectively.

On 2nd July 2015, Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Victor Bockarie Foh, launched the Food and Nutrition Security Implementation (FNSI) plan as part or the countries efforts in Scaling Up Nutrition. In his keynote address, Vice President Foh spoke on the importance of the FNSI Plan which, as part of the Agenda for Prosperity, will guide the government in achieving their goals in attaining food and nutrition security to build a healthy nation.
