In Kenya there remain more than 480,000 registered refugees, with most forced to live and remain in refugee camps located in marginalised and isolated parts of the country. Kakuma refugee camp and nearby Kalobeyei settlement in Turkana County in north-western Kenya today host close to 186,000 refugees from South Sudan, Somalia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Burundi and Sudan amongst others.

The Government of Sweden has announced yesterday its support to United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Community Security and Stabilization Programme (C2SP) operating in five states in Sudan, with a total fund of 5 million USD.

This announcement took place yesterday during a meeting with H.E. Ambassador to Sweden Mr. Hans Henric Lundquist and First Secretary Ms. Anna Saleem Hogberg who have met with UNDP Country Director Dr. Selva Ramachandran.

Khartoum, 10 September 2018. The United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator (RC/HC) in Sudan, Ms. Gwi-Yeop Son visited three states in Darfur (North, Central and East) from 3 to 10 September 2018.

Ms. Son met with Government officials in the three states and acknowledged the measures taken to improve humanitarian access presently since 2016. She welcomed the commitment of the Government authorities to the full implementation of the 2016 Directives and Procedures for Humanitarian Action in Sudan that have been instrumental in facilitating access to affected people.

Jordan is one of the countries most affected by the Syria crisis, with the second highest share of refugees compared to its population in the world, 89 refugees per 1,000 inhabitants.
The majority of Syrian refugees in Jordan live in urban areas and in poverty: over 85% live below the poverty line. 48% of refugees are children, and 4% are elderly.
The Government of Jordan has taken steps to open formal employment opportunities for Syrians. More than 50,000 refugees have active work permits.

The UAE has reinforced its international humanitarian relief approach, which is based upon close coordination with countries and communities entitled to receive its aid, through the launch, by the wise leadership, of an initiative to create a national committee to rescue those affected by the floods in Kerala, India.

The initiative aims to involve the public and private sectors, as well as representatives of the Indian community.

The following provides an overview of selected achievements by humanitarian partners operating in Sudan during 2017 under the Humanitarian Response Plan (HRP). These successes would not have been possible without strong cooperation between UN agencies, NGOs and the Government of Sudan. Donor contributions in 2017 amounted to about US$365.6 million for HRP activities and an additional $66.9 million for humanitarian assistance outside of the HRP.
