World Humanitarian Data and Trends presents global- and country-level data-and-trend analysis about humanitarian crises and assistance. Its purpose is to consolidate this information and present it in an accessible way, providing policymakers, researchers and humanitarian practitioners with an evidence base to support humanitarian policy decisions and provide context for operational decisions.

Information on the camp overview and demographics was provided by UNHCR, while NGOs provided information on services. REACH collected GPS data points between 1 and 31 August, 2018 to create the maps. In Tunisia, UNHCR aims to support the establishment of a national asylum system, and to build national capacity for refugee protection.

UNHCR identifies, assists and protects refugees in a context marked by mixed migration movements. UNHCR also maintains preparedness efforts in view of a potential major influx.

UNHCR commends Tunisia’s continued policy of saving lives through rescue at sea, and its humanitarian response, permitting disembarkation in Tunisia.

There are currently 654,113 persons of concern to UNHCR in Chad including 447,125 refugees and 3,653 asylum seekers. In the Lac region, there are 124,078 IDPs, 38,677 Chadian returnees, as well as 10,607 refugees. In eastern Chad, there 336,929 Sudanese refugees and asylum seekers and 3,858 Chadians (former refugees) voluntarily repatriated from Sudan since December 2017. In southern Chad, there are 96,438 CAR refugees as well as 45,710 Chadian returnees from CAR. In N’djamena, there are 6,804 urban refugees of different nationalities, but mainly from CAR.

Message from our Regional Director

Despite numerous humanitarian challenges in 2017 in Africa, there were also a number of heart-warming accomplishments. A case in point, was when a local response of Red Crescent teams—and other partners—curbed Somalia's cholera outbreak through the power of local volunteers and shared international expertise. In terms of support to our members, 36 National Societies were able to kick start initiatives that built their capacity through seed grants.
