A group of herders bound and beat a number of displaced people from Murnei camp in West Darfur on Monday, and caused serious injuries to four of them.
One of the sheikhs of the camp reported to Radio Dabanga that on Monday a group of herders attacked displaced people while they were collecting firewood north of the camp. The men allegedly bound them at gunpoint, and then proceeded to beat and torture them for the entire day, only releasing them on Tuesday.
October 15, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The government of North Darfur State on Monday has approved a plan to turn the Internally Displaced Persons’ (IDPs) camps into permanent residential areas.
The plan proposes to establish a technical committee to conduct the necessary surveys to turn the camps into new residential compounds to accommodate the IDPs who wish to integrate into their current communities.
October 12, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The government of South Kordofan State said it has identified 40 villages for voluntary return pointing to the return of large numbers of residents from the rebel-controlled areas.
The semi-official SMC has quoted the state humanitarian aid commissioner Khidir Tawil as saying three committees including inside the state and at the federal level and abroad were formed to facilitate the voluntary return efforts.

October 1, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir has renewed calls to rebel groups to renounce violence stressing his government’s keenness to achieve comprehensive peace in the country.
Speaking before the National Legislature on Monday, al-Bashir said his government has been seeking to achieve peace, pointing to the national dialogue and the unilateral cessation of hostilities.
ABU DHABI, 30th September, 2018 (WAM) -- Some 2 million people in Sudan have benefited from the relief programmes, seasonal projects and aid campaigns launched by the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, during the Year of Zayed, which aim to help those affected by the humanitarian situation in several Sudanese provinces.

September 28, 2018 (NEW YORK) - A high-level meeting on Darfur Friday decided the creation of a Group of Friends to back this transition the transition from peacekeeping to peace-building and development in Darfur.
The decision was taken during the high-level meeting held on the margins of the General Assembly’s annual general debate, convened by the United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed and the African Union Commissioner for Peace and Security, Ambassador Smail Chergui.
The Sudanese government Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) has approved a UN initiative to deliver humanitarian aid to people living in rebel-controlled areas in the Two Areas (South Kordofan and Blue Nile states).
Humanitarian Aid Commissioner-General Ahmed Mohamed Adam said in a press conference in Khartoum on Thursday that the UN World Food Programme (WFP) office in Sudan will coordinate the provision of aid with the government and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) if the latter agrees.
At least 40 people died of chikungunya fever in eastern Sudan’s Kassala last week. Security officers stopped blood donated by people in El Gezira from reaching Kassala. Three chikungunya cases were reported in Northern State.
On Thursday, a young girl died of the mosquito-borne disease in Kassala Hospital, a medical source told Radio Dabanga.
He said she was the 40th patient who died in Kassala town last week.
September 27, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) Thursday agreed UN initiative to deliver humanitarian assistance to civilians in the rebel-controlled areas in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan states.
In a press conference held in Khartoum, HAC General Commissioner Ahmed Mohamed Adam made the government official declaration adding they received the initiative earlier this year for the first time and was renewed last June.
The chikungunya epidemic is now spreading in the rural areas of Kassala locality, multiple sources told Radio Dabanga.
They severely criticised the Governor of Kassala, Adam Jamaa, for denying that people died of the mosquito-borne disease.
“At least 25 chikungunya patients reportedly died in Kassala during the past three days,” a listener reported. “The El Hassan and El Hussein cemetery east of Kassala and the graveyard west of El Gash are daily witnessing burials of chikungunya victims.”

September 24, 2018 (KHARTOUM) The Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) in South Kordofan said 74,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have returned to their original villages in the state during the previous period.
In press statements on Sunday, HAC commissioner in South Kordofan Khidir Tawil Hussein said the voluntary return of IDPs is ongoing, stressing they would provide the returnees with the basic services including water, health and education.
September 24, 2018 (KHARTOUM) Sudanese Presidential Assistant Faisal Hassan Ibrahim Monday announced the government has begun to deliver humanitarian aid to rebel-held areas in the South Kordofan and Blue Nile states.
Speaking at a workshop on the international standard framework for humanitarian assistance in Khartoum, Ibrahim said the government has accepted the US proposal to allow humanitarian access to the Two Areas but the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement/North (SPL-M) rejected it.
September 23, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The third and final phase of the exit strategy of the hybrid peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) would be completed within two years, said Sudan’s Foreign Ministry Under-Secretary Abdel-Ghani al-Na’im.
In press statements on Saturday, al-Nai’m pointed out that Darfur’s five states became safe and it is now hosting large numbers of refugees from other countries.
The number of cases of chikungunya fever has dramatically increased in Kassala, where two seniors died on Monday. The current outbreak, in which more than 6,000 people have been infected, is causing paralysis in all service facilities and the markets.
A resident told Radio Dabanga that the number of those who suffer the disease from his family and relatives alone exceeds 20 cases, while the health centres in the districts of Kassala have witnessed overcrowding. Patients line up in front of nurses to take injections and intravenous solutions.
September 19, 2018 (JUBA) - The Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC) has urged South Sudanese women to be strongly involved in the peace implementation process to ensure its successful achievement to put the country in the path of reconciliation and development.
The call was made by JMEC Ag. Deputy Chief of staff- Strategy, during a women peace march held in Juba on Wednesday in the presence of Presidential Advisor for gender Rachel Nyabak who was the guest of honour.
September 19, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudan Liberation Movement-led by Abdel Wahid al-Nur (SLM-AW) declared a three-month unilateral cessation of hostilities to allow humanitarian access to civilians in landslide-affected areas in Jebel Marra.
Torrential rains and landslides killed at least 21 people in Sampali area in eastern Jebel Marra on 7 September. However, the Sudanese authorities and UNAMID were not able to reach the rebel-controlled area due to the security situation there.
The Governor of South Darfur has called on relief organisations to provide aid to the victims of a landslide near the village of Tagoli in Kass locality two weeks ago.
Governor Adam El Faki said in a press conference in Khartoum on Tuesday that two people died and two others went missing in the rockslide that took place near Tagoli village on September 6.
