January 9, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - At least two people were killed and several others were injured in the largest opposition protest that took place in Khartoum’s twin city of Omdurman on Wednesday after security forces used tear gas and bullets to disperse demonstrators calling for the fall of the regime.
Two protesters were killed in the protests while activists released videos showing injured demonstrators some in the head and chest.
December 19, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s deputy consular in Libya has discussed with the director of the Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency (AIIA) the conditions of Sudanese migrants in Libya’s detention centres.
The AIIA on Tuesday said it has arrested 120 Sudanese and Chadian illegal migrants at Al-Wahat area during a large inspection campaign against undocumented workers.
The deputy consular has checked on the living and health conditions at the detention centre.
December 19, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Popular protests have erupted Wednesday at a number of the Sudanese states against price hikes and worsening economic conditions.
In Atbara town of River Nile State in northeastern Sudan, demonstrators took to the streets to protest against deteriorating living conditions and price hikes as the price of a loaf of bread has increased to 3 Sudanese pounds (the official price is one pound).
December 18, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudanese presidential aide Faisal Hassan Ibrahim who is also the government chief negotiator accused the SPLM-N led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu of delaying the much-needed humanitarian assistance for what described as "irrational" reasons.
On September 27, Sudan’s Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) agreed on the UN proposal to deliver humanitarian aid to civilians in the rebel-controlled areas in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan states.
December 14, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The government of North Darfur State said 244 refugees have returned to Tina locality from Chad.
The semi-official Sudan Media Center quoted the commissioner of Tina locality Al-Sadig Ibrahim Shargo as saying the tripartite agreement on the return of refugees is being implemented smoothly.
He pointed out that the implementation of the agreement doesn’t face any obstacles, saying 89 households including 244 refugees have recently returned to his locality from Chad.
December 10, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudanese security has captured 4 human traffickers as they were preparing to take 57 foreign nationals towards the Libyan border.
The semi-official Sudan Media Center (SMC) Sunday said the victims were hidden at a house in East Nile locality, east of Khartoum, pointing that the police is still searching for 3 other traffickers.
It added the initial legal action was taken against the human traffickers.
December 9, 2018 (KHARTOUM) – The Implementation Follow-up Commission (IFC) of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD) welcomed the signing of a pre-negotiation agreement for peace in Darfur and called on the remaining holdout groups to join the peace process.
The IFC held its 14th meeting in Khartoum on Sunday to discuss progress made and the challenges faced in the implementation of the DDPD since its last meeting which was held on 11 July 2018, in Doha.
December 8, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The government of Central Darfur State has begun to hand over residential plots to the first batch of refugees returning from Chad.
The director of the Higher Council for Peace and Voluntary Return in Central Darfur Aamer Youssef said the government started to hand over residential plots to 352 refugees who arrived at Um Dokhon locality from refugee camps in eastern Chad.
December 6, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudanese government and two armed groups in Darfur region signed Thursday a pre-negotiation agreement paving the way for the resumption of peace talks in Qatar next year.
The signing of the declaration of principles with the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) and Sudan Liberation Movement-Minni Minnwi (SLM-MM) took place in Berlin after two years of informal talks facilitated by the German foreign ministry with the support of the Berghof Foundation.
November 29, 2018 (JUBA) - First comes a hacking cough, with mucus and blood. As the bacteria starts to infect the lungs, eating away at the tissue, the night sweats start and a high fever develops. Over time, extreme tiredness sets in, along with a loss of appetite and weight.
If left untreated, pulmonary TB will severely weaken an infected person, leaving them emaciated. Eventually, their lungs will fill with liquid, causing chronic respiratory failure. At this stage, treatment is too late. The patient will die.
November 20, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The government of White Nile State on Tuesday said it has dispatched 4 humanitarian caravans to South Sudan.
The semi-official Sudan Media Center (SMC) quoted the director of aid groups department at the Humanitarian Aid Commission in White Nile, Mustafa al-Kamel, as saying the caravans have been dispatched to Upper Nile and Bahr el-Ghazal provinces via the Joda border crossing point.
He pointed out that the caravans contained 160 tons of sorghum, 400 packages of edible oils as well as large quantities of legumes, flour and rice.
November 17, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North led by Malik Agar (SPLM-N Agar) discussed Friday with the African Union High-Level Implementation Panel (AUHIP) ways to end the armed conflicts in the Two Area and to achieve a comprehensive peace in Sudan.
The meeting was reported Saturday by the SPLM-N Agar organ, Madarat Jadidah (New Orbits) which indicated that the rebel delegation comprised its chairman Malik Agar, his deputy Yasir Arman, the secretary-general Ismail Jalab and the spokesperson Mubarak Ardol.
November 16, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese Commission of Refugees (SCR) said 400 Ethiopian refugees have arrived in the eastern state of Gedaref following ethnic clashes between Amhara and Tigray.
Sudan’s commissioner of refugees Hamad al-Gizouli said the Ethiopian refugees have entered Sudan through Gallabat and Metemma border crossing points between the two countries.
November 11, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The hybrid peacekeeping mission in Darfur (UNAMID) has handed over four sites to the Sudanese government as part of the Mission’s exit strategy from the region.
The Mission on November 1st has withdrawn from the team site at Labado area in East Darfur State. Also, the Mission on 4 November handed over its site at Mukjar area in Central Darfur State to the Sudanese government.
Moreover, the Mission on 8 November handed over the team site at Ambro, North Darfur State to the government in the presence of officials from both sides.
November 9, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Three armed groups in Darfur region extended the unilateral cessation of hostilities for three months, and called for the resumption of talks to reach a political solution to the conflict based on the African Union-brokered roadmap agreement.
The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), Sudan Liberation Movement-Minni Minnwi (SLM-MM) and Sudan Liberation Movement-Transitional Council (SLM-TC) Friday declared "an immediate extension of their unilateral Cessation of Hostilities for Humanitarian Purposes".
November 1, 2018 (PARIS) - In a significant development paving the way for the resumption of Darfur peace talks, the Sudanese government has agreed to establish a New Independent Implementation Mechanism (NIIM) for a future peace deal, said the leader of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) on Thursday.
October 31, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s Refugee Commission said Chad is currently hosting over 300,000 Sudanese refugees pointing out that 50% of them have expressed their desire to return to the country voluntarily.
On Tuesday, the State Minister of Interior Musa Madibu visited the Refugee Commission to learn about the efforts it exerts on various issues including voluntary return, human trafficking and mixed migration.
October 22, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - Sudan’s Presidential Assistant Faisal Ibrahim and the visiting Norwegian Special Envoy to South Sudan and Sudan, Erling Skojonsberg on Sunday have discussed the implementation of the RoadMap Agreement (RMA).
Sudan Troika countries including the U.S., Norway and the United Kingdom are facilitating Sudan’s peace talks and seeking to bring all stakeholders to the negotiating table.
October 21, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The Sudanese government has renewed commitment to the unilateral ceasefire until the end of the year calling on holdout groups to join the national dialogue.
Last July, the Sudanese president Omer al-Bashir extended a unilateral cessation of hostilities for a six-month period until the end of the year.
Speaking to ruling National Congress Party (NCP) members in the capital of White Nile State, Rabak, the presidential assistant Faisal Hassan Ibrahim said the government is keen to achieve peace and stability in the country.
October 18, 2018 (KHARTOUM) - The African Union chief mediator Thabo Mbeki plans to meet the opposition Sudan Call groups to discuss the resumption of the peace talks and the amendment a roadmap agreement signed in 2016.
The meeting was announced in a statement released by the Sudan Call groups inside the country after a meeting with the visiting former South African president who leads an African Union mediation team to end the armed conflicts and facilitate democratic reforms in Sudan.
