• Alrededor de 124 millones de personas en 51 países se enfrentan a una situación de Crisis de inseguridad alimentaria o peor (equivalente o superior a la fase 3 del IPC/CH) y requieren una acción humanitaria urgente para salvar vidas, proteger los medios de vida y reducir los niveles de hambre y desnutrición aguda.

• Environ 124 millions de personnes vivant dans 51 pays sont en situation d’insécurité alimentaire de Crise ou pire (Phase 3 ou pire de l’IPC ou du CH ou équivalent) et requièrent une action humanitaire urgente afin de sauver des vies, protéger les moyens d’existence et réduire les déficits de consommation alimentaire et la malnutrition aiguë.
Acute food insecurity global estimates in 2017
• Around 124 million people in 51 countries face Crisis food insecurity or worse (equivalent of IPC/CH Phase 3 or above). They require urgent humanitarian action to save lives, protect livelihoods, and reduce hunger and malnutrition.
13th February 2018, Mombasa, Kenya: The period between March and May (MAM) constitute an important rainfall season over the equatorial parts of the Greater Horn of Africa (GHA) region. The prediction of MAM 2018 season indicates increased likelihood of near normal to enhanced rainfall over much of the Greater Horn of Africa. However, near normal to depressed rainfall is likely to occur over much of Somalia, southeastern Ethiopia and eastern Kenya.
03-04-2017, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Members of the National Tuberculosis and HIV Programs from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Member States together with UNHCR, ARAA and Kenya Red Cross Society are meeting from April 3-4, 2017 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to consult on improving TB and HIV diagnosis, treatment and health information and supply management services in refugee settings within the IGAD region.

The European Union, FAO and WFP have joined forces with FEWS NET, UNICEF and regional organisations like CILSS, IGAD and SICA to coordinate needs assessment to increase the impact of humanitarian and resilience responses through the preparation of the “Global Report on Food Crises”. This Global Report aims to enhance coordination and decision making through a neutral analysis that informs programming and implementation.

This web map displays seasonal climate outlooks, satellite-based rainfall estimation and anomalies, flood hazards, flood forecast, changes in vegetation condition, UNOSAT observed satellite imagery derived flood extents and photos from collaborating partners and volunteers. The platform is a result from collaboration between IGAD, ICPAC and UNITAR-UNOSAT working together to improve disaster risk reduction in the Horn of Africa. This activity is funded by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

29-04-2016, Nairobi: The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) this morning held the 4th Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) General Assembly in Nairobi. The official opening ceremony was presided over by Hon. Mwangi Kiunjiru, Cabinet Secretary-Ministry of Devolution and Planning of Kenya, in the presence of Hon. Egziabher Yohannes, State Minister of Livestock and Fisheries of Ethiopia, and HE Amb. (Eng.) Mahboub Maalim, Executive Secretary of IGAD.
Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) this morning inaugurated the Sixth Steering Committee Meeting of their Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI) in Nairobi. This will be followed by the meeting of the IDDRSI Ministerial General Assembly which will be held on 29th April 2016.
Naivasha (Kenya), 20-10-2015: The Director of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development Climate Prediction and Application Center (IGAD CPAC), Dr. Guleid Artan, this morning opened the Regional Consultative Meeting of Member States on the impending El Niño impacts and preparation for early actions in the presence of the Guest of Honor from the Kenyan Government, representatives from development partners – USAID, the World Bank, the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR), and the European Commission for Humanitarian Aid & Civil Protection (ECHO).
The IGAD Election Observation Mission deployed to observe the Presidential and General Elections held in the Republic of the Sudan from 13 to 16 April 2015, has concluded its mission successfully. IGAD deployed the mission following an invitation extended by the National Election Commission (NEC) of the Republic of the Sudan.
(IGAD – Khartoum) Following the invitation extended to the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD) by the National Election Commission (NEC) of Sudan, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) has deployed an Election Observer Mission (IGAD-EOM) to Sudan to observe the Presidential election and Parliamentary Elections scheduled to be held from 13-16 April 2015 in the Republic of Sudan. An advance team of observers arrived on 2nd April 2015 while the main teams of observers arrived in Khartoum today, 06 April 2015.
The partners of the IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience and Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI), including Member States, IGAD, Development Partners, UN agencies, non-state actors (NSAs) and members of the private sector actors, committed to ending drought emergencies in the Horn of Africa, held the 3 rd IDDRSI Platform General Assembly meeting on 27 th March 2014 at the Hilton Hotel, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The meeting was opened and chaired by H.E. Hon. Dr. Gebregziabeher Gebreyohannis Minister of State for Livestock, Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. The meeting was attended by Hon.
UN Secretary-General, WBG and IsDBG Presidents, and other Agency Heads Visit Region to Link Peace Efforts with Economic Progress
Khartoum, 14 September 2014 – IGAD Security Sector Program (ISSP) conducted two national workshops for Senior Officials of Sudan from 8-10 September 2014 in Khartoum, Sudan. The first workshop was on the Legal Instruments of Counter Terrorism. The second workshop was a validation of the “Border Security and Management on the Sudan-Libya Border Research: Recommendations for Enhanced Border Control and Management.”
