This overview document presents incidents reportedly affecting educational workers between January 2016 and June 2017. It includes 83 KIK incidents identified by Insecurity Insight's monitoring of open sources. The actual number of KIK incidents affecting educational workers is undoubtedly higher.

Insecurity Insight's monitoring of open sources identified 83 KIK2 incidents that affected 119 educational workers1 in 19 countries. A high number of incidents were reported in Pakistan (20%, 17 out of 83 incidents) and Afghanistan (14%, 12/83).

Between January 2015 and June 2016, open sources reported 356 severe events in which 816 aid workers were reported killed (308), kidnapped (204) or assaulted or injured (304) in 35 countries. The highest number of severe events was reported from South Sudan (55), whilst the highest number of affected staff was reported from Afghanistan (196 individuals), followed by Syria (122 individuals). In Africa and Asia, more events were atributed to Non-State Actors (NSA's) than to State Actors (SA's) (77 and 16 respectvely). In Africa, 97% of events affectng aid infrastructure were atributed to NSA’s (77/79). Of these 77 events, the highest number of incidents were reported in South Sudan (24), followed by Mali (19) and CAR (14). In Asia, 80% of events affecting aid infrastructure were atributed to NSA’s in Afghanistan (11/20).
