Malanje - At least one hundred and three foreign nationals sought refuge in northern Malanje province and 138 others sought asylum, said the provincial director of the Migration and Foreigners Service (SME), Laureano Dias dos Santos.

The total of 241 citizens from different countries namely Mauritania, Sudan, Guinea Conakry, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, Cotê d'Ivoire, Chad, Somalia and Liberia.

According to Laureano Dias dos Santos, these citizens are under control of SME in the municipalities of Malanje, Cacuso, Calandula, Quirima, Mucari and Luquembo.

UNHCR operational highlights

  • UNHCR and the Provincial Division for Social Affairs organized a ceremony on 24 May during which the “Sensitization and Training Kit” on Sexual Violence was presented. Subsequently, UNHCR conducted a training session on the kit’s use on 27 May. The kit was developed in the framework of the SGBV Prevention and Protection Working group and will undergo a testing period of six months. Participants from both the NGO community and the Government of DRC attended.

• Nord-Kivu: UNHCR provided logistics assistance to WFP to facilitate the distribution of food rations to CCCM IDP camps in areas that are not easily accessible in Masisi Territory.

• Sud-Kivu: From 12 – 18 April, the Technical Working Group (TWG) of the Tripartite Commission DRC-Tanzania-UNHCR has visited various sites in Uvira and Fizi territory, and discussed with local authorities on the security situation.

- La cinquième réunion du groupe de travail technique et de la Commission tripartite RDC - Tanzanie - HCR s'est tenue à Kinshasa du 1er au 3 février, avec pour objectif d'examiner la situation dans les zones de retour des réfugiés au Sud-Kivu et de déterminer les prochaines étapes de l'opération de rapatriement volontaire des réfugiés congolais vivant en Tanzanie, qui avait marqué une pause en 2010 en raison de problèmes de sécurité.
