The Panel of Experts on the Sudan established pursuant to resolution 1591 (2005) has the honour to transmit herewith, in accordance with paragraph 2 of resolution 2340 (2017), the final report on its work.
SECURITY COUNCIL 8177TH MEETING (AM)
The Security Council, acting unanimously under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter, today adopted a resolution extending for 13 months the mandate of the Panel of Experts appointed to monitor the arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze imposed on those impeding peace in Sudan’s Darfur region.

Improved Security, Humanitarian Situation Welcomed, But Continued Intercommunal Violence, Human Rights Violations Remain Source of Concern
The Security Council today welcomed improvements in the security and humanitarian situation in Darfur, but remained concerned about outstanding challenges, as it expressed its support for a review that would consider a new mission concept for the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID).

Ces derniers ont avancé des propositions destinées à accroître l’efficacité de leur comité ou groupe de travail, notamment au travers d’un dialogue plus étroit avec les États Membres et les différentes parties prenantes et d’un appui plus soutenu aux groupes d’experts associés.

Members of the Security Council were briefed this morning by the Chairs of various subsidiary bodies, who reported on the Committees’ activities on such matters as counter‑terrorism efforts and the sanctions regimes in a range of countries from the Democratic Republic of the Congo to Yemen.

The Security Council decided this morning to extend until 15 April 2018 the mandate of the United Nations Interim Force for Abyei (UNISFA), and to limit support for the disputed territory’s border monitoring mechanism to a further five months, while awaiting implementation of measures agreed by Sudan and South Sudan.
