Le 11 juin, une réunion transfrontalière a eu lieu entre les Gouvernements du Burundi et de la RDC, ainsi que le HCR, à Uvira, SudKivu. La réunion a discuté du rapatriement des réfugiés burundais vivant en RDC, dans l’attente de la signature d’un Accord Tripartite.

Depuis le 6 juin, une flambée de violences a donné lieu à des déplacements massifs en Province de l’Ituri. Le HCR et OIM ont noté plus de 110.000 nouvelles arrivées dans les sites de PDI entre le 31 mai et le 20 juin. De plus, 8.647 personnes ont fui vers l’Ouganda en juin.

On 11 June, a cross-border meeting was held between the Governments of Burundi and DRC, and UNHCR, in Uvira, South Kivu. The meeting discussed the repatriation of Burundian refugees living in DRC, pending the signing of a Tripartite Agreement.

Since 6 June, a flare-up of violence has led to massive new displacements in Ituri Province.
UNHCR and IOM recorded over 110,000 new arrivals in IDP sites between 31 May and 20 June. In addition, 8,647 people fled to Uganda in June.

1. Situation update

The Ebola virus disease (EVD) outbreak in North Kivu and Ituri provinces in Democratic Republic of the Congo continues at a similar transmission intensity to previous weeks. Since our last external situation report, with data reported up to 28 July 2019, 92 new confirmed EVD cases with an additional 59 deaths have been reported across the two affected provinces. There are currently no confirmed cases of EVD outside the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Il s'agit de la troisième d'une série de quatre notes stratégiques sur les zones frontalières à risque entre la RDC et quatre pays voisins hautement prioritaires (Burundi, Ouganda, Rwanda et Sud Soudan). Au moment de publier cette note, en juillet 2019, aucun cas d'Ebola n’avait été importé de la RDC vers le Burundi.

This brief summarises key considerations concerning cross-border dynamics between Burundi and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in the context of the outbreak of Ebola in North Kivu and Ituri provinces. It is the third in a series of four briefs focusing on the at risk border areas between DRC and the four high priority neighbouring countries (Uganda, Rwanda and South Sudan). As of July 2019, there have been no cases of Ebola imported from the DRC into Burundi, although cross-border movement has been identified as a significant risk to transmission.

OVERVIEW AND TRENDS

This Dashboard provides an analysis of the trends in population mobility observed at two (2) flow monitoring points established at OPRP and Mubambiro Points of Control (POC) around Goma in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Observations were made between the 17th and the 24th of July, 2019. Over the reporting period, a total of 8,037 movements were observed by enumerators at these points.

Over 98% of all movement were internal within DRC, with a negligible 0.5% incoming flows from other countries and 1% outflows to other countries.
