Le HCR et ses partenaires ont commencé à organiser le rapatriement volontaire des réfugiés burundais au mois de Septembre 2017, à la suite des résolutions de la Commission tripartite entre le Burundi, la Tanzanie et le HCR. Ce rapatriement s’inscrit dans le cadre des solutions durables que propose le HCR pour les réfugiés qui ont manifesté la volonté de rentrer chez eux. La majorité des rapatriés proviennent de la Tanzanie, ainsi que du Kenya et de la République démocratique du Congo (RDC) en moindre nombre.

UNHCR and partners began to assist the voluntary repatriation of Burundian refugees in September 2017 as a durable solution for those refugees who indicate a desire to return home. The vast majority of returns have been from Tanzania, with smaller numbers assisted to return from Kenya and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Almost all returns from Rwanda and Uganda have so far been self-organized.

Epidémies | L'épidémie de choléra s'est intensifiée au cours de cette période, avec 379 cas enregistrés jusqu'à fin du mois d’août. En outre, avec la déclaration de l'épidémie de la MVE7 en RDC8 comme une urgence de santé publique d’intérêt international, le Gouvernement du Burundi et ses partenaires intensifient les activités de préparation. Depuis le début de la campagne de vaccination, le 13 août, environ 1 400 agents de santé de première ligne ont été vaccinés. Au total, 4 300 personnes seront vaccinées jusqu'à la fin septembre.

Epidemics | The cholera epidemic intensified in the last two months, 379 cases had been registered by the end of August. Furthermore, with the EVD7 epidemic in the DRC8 being declared a Public Health Emergency of international concern by WHO, the Government of Burundi and its partners are intensifying the preparedness activities. Since the vaccination campaign started on 13 August, 1,400 frontline healthcare workers were vaccinated. In total 4,300 people are targeted for vaccination by the end of September.

Le Gouvernement rwandais, le HCR, l’Agence des Nations Unies pour les réfugiés, et l’Union africaine ont signé aujourd’hui un mémorandum d’accord qui prévoit de mettre en œuvre un dispositif pour évacuer des réfugiés hors de la Libye.

Selon cet accord, le Gouvernement rwandais recevra et assurera la protection de réfugiés qui sont actuellement séquestrés dans des centres de détention en Libye. Ils seront transférés en lieu sûr au Rwanda sur une base volontaire.

The Government of Rwanda, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the African Union have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to set up a transit mechanism for evacuating refugees out of Libya.

Under the agreement, the Government of Rwanda will receive and provide protection to refugees and asylum-seekers who are currently being held in detention centres in Libya. They will be transferred to safety in Rwanda on a voluntary basis.

This update concerns the situation of Congolese refugees and asylum seekers in countries in the region.

As of 31 July 2019, 873,987 Congolese refugees are being hosted in several African countries. From 1 January to 31 July 2019 alone, some 62,291 Congolese fled to neighboring countries, with a particularly significant increase in the flows to Uganda.

UNHCR, together with 57 humanitarian and development partners launched the revised 2019-2020 Regional Refugee Response Plan (RRRP) on 30 June 2019 to help respond to the needs of Congolese refugees in Africa.
