17,168 as at 19 February individuals have been newly displaced by conflict since 1 January 2018 and profiled by OCHA as internally displaced persons (IDPs).

87,247 Pakistani refugees from North-Waziristan Agency biometrically registered in Khost province and verified in Paktika province.

TRENDS AND KEY FIGURES

Between 1 and 31 January 2018, over 8,000 people arrived via the Mediterranean to Europe, an 11% increase compared to the same month in 2017 during which over 7,200 arrived. Arrivals duing January comprised of 19% children, 13% women and 68% men.

Countrywide Conflict Displacement

Since the beginning of the year, a total of 17,168 displaced people have been recorded in OCHA’s Displacement Tracking System (DTS), an increase of 5,500 people compared to the previous reporting period. The highest number of displaced people this year was reported from the North-Eastern Region with 13,440 IDPs and the Western Region with 2,217 IDPs.

Afghanistan acceded to the 1951 Convention and 1967 Protocol relating to the Status of Refugees in 2005, but has not implemented a national asylum framework.

In 2014, Afghanistan received an influx of Pakistani refugees from North Waziristan Agency; an estimated 100,000 remain in a protracted refugee-like situation.

Under its mandate, UNHCR has registered 386 asylum-seekers and refugees of various nationalities in Kabul and other urban centres.

LANDI KOTAL: Hundreds of displaced families from Loe Shalman have demanded of the authorities to conduct survey of their damaged houses along with immediate provision of food and non-food items to them.

Haji Said Qahar, an elder of Narai area near the Afghan border, told this scribe that more than 100 families of his village were directed to leave their homes in 2011 after an escalation in mortar shelling on the Pakistani territory from across the border.

  • The overall number of new refugees, asylum-seekers and migrants remained stable with 4,081 counted in Serbia on 04 February. 95% (or 3,856) were accommodated in 18 governmental centres Of them, 46% originate from Afghanistan, 21% from Pakistan, 12% from Iran, 10% from Iraq, 2% from Syria and 9% from other nationalities, while 55% are men, 15% women and 30% children.
