Pakistan experiences Monsoon annually from June to September with varying intensity of rainfall. Floods being the most recurrent phenomena are potent hazard to become a disaster posing myriad challenges to disaster management system of the Country. The risks of flood hazards, therefore, merit adoption of a comprehensive and pro-active strategy at all tiers of response for dealing effectively with all associated challenges.
Pakistan and Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to co-operate in the field of Disaster Management. On the sidelines of 6th RTG Meeting here on Friday, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Lieutenant General Omar Mahmood Hayat and Deputy Chairman, Ministry of Emergency Situations, Kazakistan, H. E. Nurmagambetov Talgat signed the MOU.

Lieutenant General Omar Mahmood Hayat, Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has said that an effective Disaster Management Mechanism is a touchstone of good governance of a country. He stated this in his closing remarks of National Monsoon Preparedness Conferences-2018 in Islamabad on Thursday.
Islamabad,April 04th, 2018:
The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on April 04th, 2018, in line with its agenda to implement a Child-Centered Disaster Risk Reduction approach in preparing and responding to disasters, as well as early recovery.
Chairman NDMA, Lt. Gen. Omar Mahmood Hayat and Country Representative of IUCN, Mr. Mahmood Akhtar Cheema signed the agreement.
A Team of Experts constituted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan, has visited the Khurdopin Glacier, Shimshal Valley today to observe the situation on the site. In a meeting last week chaired by Lt. General Omar Mahmood Hayat, Chairman NDMA, it was decided that Team of Experts would visit Shimshal Valley and submit the report to the Chairman NDMA by early next month. Member Operations NDMA, Brigadier Mukhtar Ahmed is leading the team.
The meeting was attended by the Leader of Opposition in National Assembly, Leader of Opposition in Senate, Minister for Climate Change, Minister for Defence, Foreign Minister, Minister for National Food Security and Research, Minister for Water Resources, Advisor to PM for Finance, MoS for Information, Broadcasting, NH&LH, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister Gilgit Baltistan, Prime Minister AJK, Minister for Disaster Management Punjab, Minister for Rehabilitation Sindh, Chairman NDMA and senior officials.
Islamabad, 23rd February, 2018: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) launched first ever National Roster on Surge Emergency Response Team (SERT) here on Friday with cooperation of National Humanitarian Network (NHN) Pakistan and Actionaid Pakistan. Lt. General (Retd.) Nadeem Ahmed, Former Chairman NDMA, was the Chief Guest at the launching ceremony of the Roster.

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Army Medical Corps (AMC) signed MoU on 19th January, 2018 to promote a culture of prevention, mitigation and enhanced coordination among key stakeholders involved in Disaster Risk Management (DRM) across the country.
This MoU was signed by Chairman NDMA, Lt. Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat, HI (M) and Surgeon General, Lt General Zahid Hamid. This MoU specifically focuses on enhancing cooperation between NDMA and AMC, including mutual support in DRM related initiatives.
Islamabad 12 January 2018: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) signed Annual Work Plan with the UNFPA- Pakistan, with NDMA on January 12th, 2018 to envisage cooperation between the two organizations for Gender Mainstreaming, specifically in humanitarian crises to cater the needs and concerns of vulnerable groups in the entire DRM spectrum. The work plan is part of the Multi-Year Agreement (2018-22) signed between the two organizations in December 2017 to address issues of GBV and protection of women during pre and post disasters.
Islamabad, 9th Jan 2018: National Post Monsoon-2017 Review Conference held at National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) here on Tuesday. The Conference was presided over by Chairman NDMA Lt. General Omar Mahmood Hayat.
NDMA launched first phase of trainings of enumerators on Multi-sector Initial Rapid Assessment (MIRA) at District level. First two day’s training session for enumerators on MIRA was jointly organised in District Muzaffargarh by NDMA, UNOCHA with the support of PDMA Punjab and District Administration Muzaffargarh, on 26 December 2017. More than 50 participants from District Line-Departments, NGOs and volunteers participated in the training session while Deputy Commissioner Muzaffargrah Mr. Saif Ahmed Jappa, was the Guest of Honor.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) signed a joint work plan on Monday. Chairman NDMA, Lt. Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat and the Acting Representative of UNICEF, Cris Munduate signed the document.
This work plan is in line with its agenda to implement a Child-Centered Disaster Risk Reduction approach in preparing and responding to disasters, as well as early recovery.
National Disaster Management Authority, (NDMA) has formally launched the Guidelines for Minimum Standards of Relief in Camps here on Thursday. Chairman NDMA Lt. Gen Omar Mahmood Hayat HI (M), was the chief guest at the Launching Ceremony.

“National Action Plan for the Implementation of Bangkok Principles on Health Aspects of Sendai Framework of Disaster Risk Reduction” was launched today.
The National Action Plan was officially launched on 12th December 2017 in presence of senior officers of Health Directorates and Disaster Management Authorities from all the four Provinces including Gilgit Baltistan, FATA, AJ&K, ICT and also country representatives of UN agencies & I/NGOs.

Gender and Child Cell (GCC), NDMA, signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), on Pakistan School Safety Framework Scale-Up in ICT (Model Pilot) on 30 November, 2017.
Islamabad, 16-19 October 2017: National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan and Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) have jointly launched a 16-month project aimed at strengthening institutions for developing resilience in Pakistan. Senior government officials from NDMA, Federal Flood Commission, Ministry of Climate Change, Geological Survey of Pakistan, Meteorological Department, and Planning Commission attended the first of an advanced disaster resilience training course in Islamabad today which also marked the official beginning of the project.
