Drought has become a frequent phenomenon in the Pakistan especially, in Sindh due to an increase in pollution and climatic changes. According to a report issued by the Economic Survey of Pakistan, the drought is one of the factors responsible for poor growth performance in the country. Drought is common in Pakistan if there are no rains during the monsoon season. The drought of 1998-2002 has been considered the worst drought in the last 50 years in the history of Pakistan.

Title Project: Provision of Food & Non-Food Items to 1000 IDPs of Mirpurkhas and Badin Districts of Sindh Pakistan

Target Families: 1,000 IDPs families of District Mirpurkhas and Badin districts

Direct Beneficiaries: 6,000 households (each family consists 6 to 8 members)

Indirect Beneficiaries: 21000 (others families of the local areas)

Project Duration: 1 month (September – October 2011)

Mirpurkhas lies in the southern part of the Sindh province and shares a Western border with Hyderabad, to the North is Sanghar and Umerkot in the East with Tharparkar and South with Badin and Tharparkar. Mirpurkhas district has a population of 1004600. The district is comprised of six Talukas/Tehsils Mirpurkhas, Digri, Sindhri, Hussain Bux Mari, Jhudo and Kot Ghulam Mohammed. There are 41 Union Councils at district and out of that 28 are rural. 74.54 % of the population lives in the rural areas. The livelihood of majority of the people depend on agriculture and lives stock.
