Overview

The majority of those returned to Turkey are Pakistani nationals (40 per cent of total). Syrians constitute 18 per cent of the total number of those returned, and are followed by Algerians, Bangladeshis and Afghans.

In total, 290 Syrians have been returned to Turkey to date. 27 of them have been returned on the basis that their asylum claims were found inadmissible at 2nd instance.

During last week (24 June – 30 June 2018), 533 Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan (512 from Pakistan, 20 from Iran and 1 individuals from other countries).

7,951 Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan in 2018, out of which 7,275 from Pakistan, 577 from Iran and 99 from other countries (as of 30 June 2018).

This is 76% less compared to the same period in 2017, when 33,733 Afghan refugees returned to Afghanistan.

  • World Refugee Day paid respect to all forcefully displaced persons in Serbia. Refugees shared their stories at a “Live books” event of the Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation. Refugee and local school children, UNHCR, SCRM and local authorities planted tress at a primary and a secondary school in Presevo, while UNHCR partner Indigo planted roses in the Reception Centre. UNHCR partner Psycho-Social Innovation Network drew attention to the local integration potential of refugees at a Humanitarian Artwork Auction.
